PEM Fuel Cell Engineer - MEA Development (d/f/m)

Job Description:

The position is within Aerostack GmbH, a Joint Venture between Airbus and an automotive company, part of the Airbus strategy to accelerate Zero Emission Aircraft development and build competences and skills in the technology domain.

In order to support the R&D Team in Taufkirchen near Munich, a vacancy for a “PEM Fuel Cell Engineer - MEA Development (d/f/m)” has arisen at Aerostack GmbH.

The job holder reports operationally and functionally to the Head of R&D at Aerostack

Accountabilities

• Benchmark MEA performance and durability

• Brainstorm innovative solutions for MEA optimization towards performance and durability improvement

• Deep understanding of underlying MEA mechanical and chemical degradation mechanisms

• Assessment of CCM properties based on performance targets

• Definition of CCM specification

• In-situ and ex-situ measurements of MEA components and rigorous data analysis

• Definition of test protocols, e.g, accelerated stress test for electrode, membrane and MEA evaluations

• Interface with unit cell team towards MEA integration

• Work cohesively with chemists for new CCM developments and characterization

• Support modelling team with CCM data and specification

• Technical focal point for suppliers in collaboration with procurement and quality teams

Qualifications

As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate some of the following competences & skills:

• Master degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, electrochemistry, physics, or similar discipline

• Knowledge of PEM fuel cell technology

• Hands-on experience in MEA components development and manufacturing

• Knowledge of thermodynamics and electrochemistry

• Good experience in electrochemical tests (i.e. cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy)

• Experience in working in a laboratory environment including safety concepts

• Experience in in-situ and ex-situ characterization of fuel cell components

• Pragmatic mindset and ambition in simplicity

• Being self-motivated and executive on critical timelines

• Having good verbal and written communication skills

• English fluently, German & French are a benefit
