Position Summary

Platform Engineers are integral in implementing and executing cloud practices for build management, product release, and operation processes. As a Principal Platform Engineer, Infrastructure Service Frameworks, you will build and expand the service frameworks to make complex systems easy to use, resilient, and scalable. We create powerful interfaces for engineers that depend on these systems—deployment, load balancers, web framework, databases, shared services, and Kubernetes—while keeping them highly available and performant. We’re looking for engineering leaders who can drive the technical vision of JetBlue’s service infrastructure platform to use and build on top of and thrive in a highly autonomous environment with many moving pieces.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Architect and build infrastructure and automation frameworks for JetBlues industry-leading Data science and technology development services
  • This includes helping set the direction for continuously integrating, deploying, verifying, and monitoring our products/services
  • Drive the development of testing infrastructure, automation frameworks, and tools to power robust automated testing pipelines for JetBlue’s shared services
  • Lead/contribute to engineering efforts from planning and organization to execution and delivery to solve complex engineering problems in tools and testing
  • Design and implement auto-scalable and predictable infrastructure with optimized costs and performance
  • Design and build advanced Continuous Integration (CI)/Continuous Delivery (CD) pipeline frameworks with great developer experience in mind
  • Design and build software systems to help engineering teams measure and increase their velocity
  • Analyze and decompose complex software systems and collaborate with and influence others to improve the overall design
  • Design and implement secure engineering infrastructure architecture

  • Ensure the quality, performance, and reliability of a super-robust and secure enterprise Software as a Service (SaaS) platform that services hundreds of customers and millions of complex queries daily
  • Ensure that we are shipping the highest quality service possible at each release
  • Take a significant role in the development of Crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, and goal achievement

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience
  • Five (5) years of previous experience working with infrastructure and development teams to build enterprise-scale application integration solutions
  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery process
  • Strong coding skills in one or more of Python/Java/typescript/NodeJS and other software technologies 
  • Experience architecting and supporting highly available and highly scalable infrastructure
  • Strong understanding and practical experience in multiple database and storage options, including clustering, sharding, and failure recovery of Cosmos DB, Service Bus, in memory caching, etc.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, and Python
  • Experience with Container orchestration like Kubernetes, Docker, Vulnerabilities and Patch management 
  • Experience with Cloud Platforms: Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or Amazon AWS
  • Proficient in Cloud-based software development/management tools (Chef/Puppet/Salt Stack, Jenkins, Ruby, Jenkins Pipelines, GitHub, Ubuntu/Centos/RHEL, VMWare, Docker, Artifactory or similar) 
  • Understanding of landing zones, cloud-native security, monitoring and logging tools, and Well-architected framework principals
  • Available for overnight travel (less than 10%) 
  • Able to work flexible hours and be available for emergency response on short notice
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of working with Github Actions / Azure DevOp
  • Microsoft Certified DevOps Engineer or Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Expert
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and structured thinking skills
  • Experienced in supporting datalake cloud infrastructure for batch and real-time AI & ML deployment frameworks
  • Strong understanding and practical experience in service infrastructure environments (e.g., gRPC, Docker, Kubernetes, Puppet, Terraform, AWS, etc.)
  • Familiarity with the full life cycle of software development, from design and implementation to testing and deployment
  • Experience in distributed systems at scale with regards to testing, reliability, security, and observability

Crewmember Expectations: 

  • Regular attendance and punctuality 
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

Compensation:  

  • The base pay range for this position is between $118,800.00 and $177,100.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
