Job Description:

Repair Development / Implementation Engineer

The Repair Development/Implementation Engineer will develop and implement repair solutions for Aero and industrial gas turbine engines. We are seeking individuals with repair development engineering experience ranging from geared turbofan aircraft engines to industrial gas turbine applications. The individual will have the technological expertise, project management skills and innovation to deliver a safe, efficient, and cost-effective repair solution.

Accountability:

  • Recognize and understand flight/product safety critical parts and processes.
  • Immediately report flight/product safety concerns.
  • Participate in proactive risk analysis of flight/product safety critical parts and processes.
  • Recognize and understand the Just Culture policy.
  • Participates in all phases of the repair product/process development. 

Repair Development and Implementation:

  • Determines and project manages the actions and people resources necessary to develop or implement repairs from engineering data or OEM overhaul manuals.
  • Provide analytical support, evaluation and calculations for repair development planning and subsequent initiation including cost benefit analysis, evaluating end-user performance and providing cost and schedule estimates for proposed work packages.
  • Contributes to the planning and conduct of repair trials to generate data for new repairs or to support existing repairs.  Analyzes and documents the results of repair trials.
  • Identifies any repair tooling and fixtures requirements and submits related design requests.
  • Assists with the creation of matrix routings (shop routers) to manage the flow of parts throughout the process.
  • Documents procedures and work instructions.
  • Provides process-related training with other support personnel.
  • Develops First Article Inspection plan per AS9102. 
  • In conjunction with the Production engineering group, acts as a liaison to coordinate the activities of Engineering and Operations during the implementation of new repairs and processes.
  • Proposes, researches, and performs cost benefit analysis for new equipment purchases
  • Provide technical training support or mentoring for repair development and metallurgical analysis.

Process Control and Improvement

  • Analyzes, develops and recommends methods to meet production requirements, improve economy and quality, and reduce turn-around-times for products and/or processes with supporting cost analysis.
  • Establishes, analyzes, and acts upon measures of performance related to processes.
  • Investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies relating to equipment and processes to reduce variation and improve reliability.
  • Provide direction for continuous improvement of component repair methods and capabilities.
  • Compile and analyzes data on repairs; identify root causes and rectify; develop measures of performance on all repair processes.
  • Support Production Engineering activity in modifying and refining existing repair schemes to eliminate and/or reduce the number of rejects occurring.

Other

  • Coordinates and interacts with the outside resources including contractors, equipment vendors, and supply vendors for process support, improvement, or repair development.
  • Provides support, technical expertise and experience to the Design Approval Organization (DAO) necessary to make airworthiness engineering decisions.
  • Remains current with state-of the-art technologies and processes.
  • Review of OEM Inspection/Repair Manual Development/Revisions
  • Carries out special projects as assigned.

Technical Requirements

  • Strong project management skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of aerospace materials and processes.
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, leadership, interpersonal, decision making, oral and written communication skills.
  • In jurisdictions governed by a regulatory body or with an association that is governed by local legal requirements, registration is required.
  • University degree in material, metallurgy, mechanical aeronautical, chemical engineering; or equivalent.
  • Experience in an aerospace or manufacturing engineering environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of PCs in the company operating system environment.

Background Information

The typical minimum level of education to perform this job competently is equivalent to completion of a university (bachelor) program in a specialized field of study and work.  The work requires a sound understanding of the underlying theoretical principles and concepts associated with the subject area and an understanding of the relation of these to the responsibilities of the job.  This specialized training is often recognized by a degree and/or professional designation.

Three to six years of direct / indirect related work experience, representing continuous learning, is required for someone to perform this job competently.
