Under minimal supervision, the Repair Engineer III provides repair solutions for in service aircraft and aircraft in heavy maintenance. This position assists, mentors and trains less-experienced engineering staff, and interacts with different members of internal and external organizations. Provides on-site support for shop personnel and acts as on-site liaison for company engineering functions.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and substantiates complex repairs for aircraft and components based on sound engineering principles driven by OEM, FAA, airline, and best practice guidance.
- Produces technical investigation for which FAA approval can be obtained to ensure compliance with all appropriate regulatory, customer, OEM, ATS, operations, and maintenance requirements.
- Reviews existing technical data, technical drawings, and previous history for entire airframe structure, mechanical / hydraulic systems and components, engine pylon/struts, and landing gear; in addition, some avionics, indication, lighting, and electrical systems are occasionally reviewed.
- Provides written technical accomplishment instructions for complex aircraft and component repairs or modifications to maintenance, customer, and regulatory authorities as necessary.
- Communicates technical details of repair or modification designs through technical writing and computer drafting functions.
- Create drawings and repairs using CAD software.
- Monitors and approves engineering use of Customer, OEM, and other technical data to ensure compliance with all appropriate regulations and requirements.
- Approves engineering documents within authorized signatory level.
- Participates in the development of work statements and hour estimates in support of proposals.
- Represents ATS on engineering technical matters with OEMs, customers, operators, and regulatory authorities.
- Leads activities of engineering staff at the discretion of Engineering Management to achieve accurate and timely completion of modifications and repairs during maintenance and component overhaul visits.
- Provides technical guidance to less experienced staff.
- Coaches and mentors others on best practices.
- Plans, reviews, organizes, and prioritizes engineering tasks to ensure Engineering completes tasks and maintains responsiveness in order to maintain aircraft, component, and engineering program schedules.
- Volunteers for various assignments in order to hold to program schedules and budgets.
- May require some overnight travel, being on-call, and responding to technical AOG situations during off hours.
- May be assigned to alternative shifts such as day, night, swing, and weekends to support programs or installations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science
- OEM/MRO airframe repair/design experience preferred.
- Solidworks and AutoCAD experience preferred.
