What are you going to do?

You will work in the Big Data department of KLM E&M. We are responsible for developing digital innovation from idea to industrialization by leveraging data from our aircraft and our maintenance operations.  This team operates at the crossroads between aircraft engineering, IT development and maintenance operations. The research engineer is expected to invent, develop and validate novel predictive maintenance technologies to enhance the performance of our fleets. Retrofitting of new sensors to existing aircraft for enhanced prognostics & diagnostics will be your flagship project. 

 

Your tasks will include (but are not limited to) identifying and maturing valuable ideas that contribute to the advanced analytics transformation of KLM E&M (Engineering & Maintenance):

 

  • Identifying opportunities, requirements and use-cases for on-board sensing system
  • Co-creation with end-users, business stakeholders and product managers
  • Partnering with vendors, OEMs and research partners
  • Collaboration with system-engineers, avionics engineers and airworthiness office
  • Perform Integration, Demonstration and Validation exercise
  • Create visions to mature initial prototype towards Minimal Viable Product (MVP).

 

You will be playing a key role in the successful development and deployment into service of different predictive maintenance applications, integrating them into the existing processes. In addition, you contribute to ideate, think along, develop, and implement the E&M Big Data strategy and vision.

Where do you land?

At KLM Engineering & Maintenance (E&M), you will become part of the innovative and energetic E&M Big Data team within the E&M Engineering organization, working within a research & innovation team. Our products support a broad audience of engineers, planners, technical specialists and management in their daily business. Our offices are located at Schiphol-East Technical Area, right in the middle of the aircraft maintenance operation.

Your profile
  • MSc in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Aerospace)
  • Between 0-5 years of working experience in related field
  • Self-motivating, independent and creative problem solver
  • Strong knowledge of Python programming language
  • Experience in aircraft system engineering is a plus
  • Experience in aviation certification is a plus
  • Ability to effectively communicate new ideas and solutions to a variety of stakeholders
