DRS Training & Control Systems (TCS), Fort Walton Beach, FL, provides engineering, manufacturing, and support of defense and aerospace systems for sea, land, air, and space use.  Our product and service areas include electronic control and monitoring systems, aerospace material handling systems, simulation and training systems, aerospace support equipment, contract manufacturing, engineering, and product support. In addition, DRS TCS has contract logistics support operations domestically as well as in Europe and the Middle East.

Title:   Senior Project Engineer
Position Summary:
Responsible for leading a multi-discipline engineering team in the development and implementation of complex defense systems and products.  The Project Engineer is responsible for leading all engineering tasks involved with system and product development, including meeting budget and schedule. The Project Engineer will schedule, plan, forecast, resource and manage all technical activities to assure project success from conception to completion.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading all engineering efforts for complex projects

    • Determine engineering responsibilities; hold delegated engineering assignees accountable

    • Create project schedule based on work breakdown structure elements and contractual milestone dates

    • Maintain project schedule and budget by monitoring project progress; coordinate activities; resolve problems.

    • Lead program milestone reviews, such as SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR

    • Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions



  • Ensure system/product compliance with all technical requirements

  • Review customer specifications and requirements; lead a project team to develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable 

  • Provide budget, cost and schedule input for engineering assignments

  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with manufacturing, supply chain, program management and the customer as required

    • Prepare presentations and brief Leonardo DRS Sr. Management and customers

    • Articulate technical positions and summarize key points for Leonardo DRS Sr. Management and customers



  • Assume a lead role in preparation of complex proposals for new business

  • Continuously interact with Engineering Management, Program Management, Finance, and other support personnel to coordinate, recommend and confer regarding technical activities and program decisions

  • Mentor and coach less experienced engineers

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the Leonardo DRS organization 

 
Job Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related technical field required


  • 10+ years’ experience as a Project Engineer leading product development teams for complex systems in a defense contractor environment

  • Ability to lead a development program while meeting technical, budget and schedule targets

  • Ability to travel to both domestic and foreign locations in support of site survey, system installation, system test activities and customer meetings

  • Experience preparing technical proposals for governments and prime contractors

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with a current Secret Clearance or have the ability to obtain/maintain one

 
Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge 

  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics

  • Experience with Microsoft Project

  • Experience  with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS)


  • Experience with DOORS Requirements Management tool

  • Knowledge of CMMI Development Life Cycle processes
