Boeing Defense, Space and Security is seeking a Senior Space Vehicle Lead Cryptography Engineer to develop and manage cryptographic requirements and certification efforts for proprietary government programs. In this role, you will be responsible for the cryptographic design and certification of the entire system, and all the cryptographic hardware and software therein.  This position will include requirements definition and flow down, unit and systems design and analysis, systems integration, test, and verification.  Selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with senior management and technical experts across multiple disciplines including subsystem engineering, unit engineering, software architecture and validation, electronic hardware testing, spacecraft level testing, and end to end system engineering. This position is located in El Segundo, CA.

**This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Basic relocation is available for internal candidates.**

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of hardware and subsystem engineers to develop and certify cryptographic systems that meet mission needs.
  • Performs trade studies to satisfy program requirements.
  •  Performs analyses to evaluate and optimize total system performance.
  • Resolves technical issues and ensures the spacecraft hardware is flight-worthy and the space-ground interface is operational.
  • Develops requirement management and operations processes and tools.
  • Performs and documents design of the systems models and tools and guides less experienced engineers.
  • Develops certification criteria and methods with regulatory agencies.
  • Leads, organizes and resolves cross-divisional problems to provide technical assistance to internal/external customers.
  • Develops cost-effective, creative solutions, and dispositions issues in a timely manner.

This position requires an active U.S. Security Clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) that has been successfully completed within the last 5 years. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Typical Education & Experience:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelors 14 or more years experience, Masters with 12 or more years experience or PhD with 9 or more years experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Experience working with COMSEC/CRYPTO/TRANSEC.
  • Experience working in the electrical engineering field.
  • Experience with project leadership.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with CCSDS and IP (Internet Protocol).
  • Experience with1553, SpaceWire, and CAN.
  • Experience with MATLAB, and VBA tool development.
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal).
