Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager 2.   This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program. 

Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure.

Join the Deployment & MFG (D&M) Engineering team for Sentinel and take part in engineering solutions to deploy and deliver a state-of-the-art weapon system to our customer. The candidate will be involved in all engineering activities supporting the deployment of critical systems for the Sentinel program. The candidate will demonstrate exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, be capable of working a variety of tasks in a proactive manner, is task oriented, self-governed, and communicates effectively with varying levels of Government, NGC, and Supplier personnel.

What You’ll Get To Do: 

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager 2 will be responsible for leading the development of engineering products facilitating Engineering & Manufacturing Development (EMD) Command and Launch (C&L) manufacturing activities and site deployments with an emphasis on Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Inter-site and Intra-site cabling. Primary responsibilities are the management of cost, schedule, and technical performance of the EMD contract within C&L D&M engineering. Additional responsibilities will include providing technical leadership and guidance to the Manufacturing Engineering team in support of cable manufacturing and field installation. 

 

The candidate will provide exceptional leadership and collaboration to ensure compliance and execution to the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) Statement of Work (SOW) requirements within the confines of program cost and schedule. Primary responsibilities will include:  

  • Providing leadership and excellence oversight for a growing D&M Engineering team focused on developing and maturing manufacturing build and installation plans, including work instructions, of cables for the Sentinel Command and Launch EMD site deployments  

  • Ensuring seamless installation and integration of Sentinel Command and Launch EMD site deployments  

  • Identification, distribution, tracking, and completion of program requirements specific to cable build and field installation, including experience in reading wiring diagrams, background in cable assembly manufacturing or creating cable assembly work instructions, and experience in installation of cable assemblies 

  • Close collaboration with the Sentinel project leads and other core organization leads in defining, executing, and growing the organization’s people and business

  • Establishing a functional organization that effectively addresses employee needs for career development, mentoring and training  

  • Delivering presentations to Program Leadership, Element management and other program stakeholders  

  • Leading manufacturing engineering team focused on cable build and cable field installation to meet program schedule and technical performance objectives  

  • Measuring and reporting team’s performance  

  • Ensuring program team understands and adheres to contract scope, and manages change through control board activities  

  • Conducting thorough risk & opportunity management practices including identification, mitigation and realization  

  • Participating in the negotiation of contracts, contract changes, specifications, operating budgets, schedule milestones, and key terms and conditions

  • Managing suppliers to meet program objectives

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

 

You’ll Bring These Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 6 years of related technical experience, or a Masters Degree with 4 years of experience. 

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need.

  • At least 1 year leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule.

  • Experience leading the team to perform at cost and achieving all requirements as either project lead, integrated program team or cost account manager experience.

  • Technical expertise with cable/harness build processes, tools and capital equipment as well as design tools for defining product structure related to the cable/harness hardware. 

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 6 years of related technical experience, or a Masters Degree in a STEM discipline and 4 years of experience.

  • 5 years of experience with Land Based Missile Systems modification deployment programs.

  • 3 years of experience with DoD weapon system conceptual and preliminary design, particularly related to design analysis cycles, cost versus capability trade studies, and multi-discipline design integration.

  • An active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with Special Access Program (SAP).

  • 8 years minimum experience with engineering/sustaining ICBM systems.

  • Experience with risk management databases, engineering concepts, and engineering developmental tools such as: finite element analysis, computer aided design, product life cycle management, requirements management.

  • An understanding of Manufacturing Readiness Assessment’s and establishing Manufacturing Readiness Levels per DoD customer requirements.

  • An understanding of tooling, work instructions, and visual aid.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a Model Based Manufacturing digital environment.

  • Master of Science and/or Engineering in STEM.

  • Experience with NX, CPLM, ABAQUS, ANSYS, DOORS, and CAMEO as well as technical expertise with cable/harness build processes  

  • Experience with Test and Automated Test Equipment for cable checkout/inspection.

Salary Range: $111,700 - $167,500
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
