SOFTWARE FLIGHT RELIABILITY ENGINEER
SpaceX has a strong belief that launch vehicles and spacecraft can be both cost effective and highly reliable. Our Flight Reliability team is key to our pursuit of that goal and, more specifically, our pursuit of manned spaceflight. The department works in a cross-functional fashion with all other technical teams on a variety of exciting projects, and has great exposure to leadership and the organization as a whole.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Software Flight Reliability Engineer will be involved with all aspects of the software lifecycle, from development, tracking, and verification of requirements to the tracking and resolution of software issues.

  • Support the chief engineer function within flight reliability, with a particular focus on software, GNC, and avionics.

  • Help develop, maintain, and improve processes for ensuring proper release of software configuration across all vehicles and sites.

  • Managing software configuration testing and verification across a space fleet.

  • Collaborate closely with software developers, hardware engineers, and system engineers is paramount.

  • Will be responsible for ensuring our software code and its testing results in highly reliable space vehicles that launch on time.

  • Configuration management, source code version control, and collection of metrics.

  • Ability to monitor source code to ensure compliance with SpaceX documentation and coding standards.


Job Requirements:
/p>

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.

  • Experience with rocket or spacecraft design (or similarly complex systems), including non-software subsystems, such as engines, stage propulsion, and structures.

  • Experience with Python or Object Oriented Programming (e.g. C++).


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in aerospace engineering or computer science.

  • Experience with multi-system engineering design.

  • Leadership or project management skills.

  • Proficiency in SQL.

  • Experience in the software lifecycle.

  • Experience conducting hardware-in-the-loop testing.

  • Experience ensuring and documenting compliance to industry standards and regulations (FAA, NASA, DoD, etc.).

  • Strong communication skills.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work long hours and/or weekends if needed.
