The Specialist, Manufacturing Engineer develops, implements and analyzes manufacturing engineering plans and projects and communicates them to internal and external customers. Defines, develops and transfers manufacturing and engineering tools, strategies and systems. Develops manufacturing strategies for specific products and processes. Actively participates with engineering project teams in order to coordinate the release of new products. Estimates and tracks manufacturing costs, determines time standards, and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.
Essential Functions:
- Plan, develop, initiate and maintain processes for the fabrication of advanced composite parts. Create detailed work instructions, procedures, PFMEAs, and JSAs that meet design, process, quality, safety, and environmental requirements. Provide shop floor support of advanced composite manufacturing processes.
- Provide technical guidance and/or training to shop floor, design and management teams. Analyze engineering drawings and specifications in support of developing robust and advanced part and tooling designs. Interface with all of the related support groups for processes to ensure accuracy, control and safety of the personnel and quality of the hardware.
- Perform investigations of nonconforming hardware and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Present fabrication processes at customer readiness reviews and present process changes to customers at change board meetings.
- Less than 5 travel maybe required to support suppliers or other manufacturing sites.
- Occasional off-shift and weekend work required to support manufacturing schedules.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant engineering experience.
- Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related engineering experience.
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related engineering experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Hand layup and cure of insulation, composite and/or other materials is desired.
- Strong GD&T background supporting part validation is desired.
- CAD modeling experience is desired.
- Surface preparation for primary substrates to bond rubber or composite materials is a plus.
- Precision assembly of aerospace hardware a plus.
- Experience with operation of robots, presses, ovens, winders, CNC machines, cutting tables and/or autoclaves is a plus.
