One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. Our team is chartered with providing the skills to transform computing beyond Moore’s Law, advancing development of computer architectures, processing/memory subsystems, and large-scale high-performance computing systems. MDA is seeking a Staff Engineer DevOps with demonstrated ability to support our innovative MDA team in support of emerging supercomputing technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of DevOps engineers who maintain the MDA DevOps infrastructure and services and promote DevOps adoption across multiple teams and environments
- Continuously solicit and synthesize stakeholder feedback to develop, maintain, and execute a DevOps roadmap coordinated and aligned with MDA organizational objectives
- Create and nurture a culture of DevOps throughout all MDA functions; oversee promotion and adoption through coaching, mentoring, advocacy, and training; use metrics to provide organizational leadership insight into progress and outcomes
- Demonstrate oral and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills
All job functions require close teamwork across functional disciplines and integrated product teams in a fast-paced environment. This program area is expanding which offers the potential for future growth opportunities (technical lead, software architect, etc.) for candidates who successfully demonstrate exceptional performance and leadership. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.
This position requires onsite work at our Linthicum, MD and/or Annapolis Junction locations.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or comparable degree;
- A minimum of 12 years of experience in software development or DevOps (10 years with a MS degree; 7 years with PhD);
- Demonstrated team leadership abilities within a large organization, including communication with internal and external stakeholders;
- Extensive technical expertise in DevOps tools and implementation, with full knowledge of the software development lifecycle;
- Experience providing technical leadership to a DevOps or software team, providing strategic vision, guidance, and solutions;
- Experience managing a DevOps or software team: assigning tasks, tracking progress, and communicating status;
- Experience employing Agile software methodologies and tools (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, Jira) for team leadership and management;
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround times and shifting priorities;
- Candidates must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph
Preferred Qualifications represent skills and experiences a candidate:
- Experience writing or maintaining programs/scripts, e.g., written in BASH, Python, PowerShell, C/C++, Java, JavaScript, Matlab;
- Experience using, authoring, and administering GitLab CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure, including security and quality tool integration with, e.g., Nessus, Trivy, SonarQube;
- Experience using or administering additional container technologies, e.g., Docker, Kubernetes;
- Experience writing, maintaining, or employing Infrastructure as Code technologies, e.g., Ansible;
- Experience administrating DevOps technologies in a production environment, e.g., GitLab, Prometheus, Kubernetes, Nexus;
- Demonstrated ability to build diverse/inclusive teams with engaged team members;
- Demonstrated professionalism and ability to maintain composure in stressful situations;
- Active TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph

Salary Range: $157,500 - $236,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
