About Insitu Pacific

Insitu Pacific delivers industry-leading uncrewed aerial system (UAS) services to Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Our expertise, operational experience, and knowledge has established Insitu Pacific as a key provider of end-to-end advanced multi-domain ISR solutions.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Structural/Mechanical Engineer to assist with design, modelling, analysis, and testing of hardware components/systems for Uncrewed Systems; including identification and development of system enhancements to meet customer needs and extend Insitu Pacifics product range and capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyse, and oversee fabrication of structural and mechanical components and systems for use on Uncrewed Systems including air, land, and maritime elements.
  • Prepare engineering drawings and documentation, including design studies, supplier specifications, and scope documents.
  • Develop test plans to verify system performance against the system requirements.
  • Perform trade studies, develop system interface definitions, and prepare verification and acceptance plans for product development and enhancement.
  • Design and construct prototype and production components for validation and testing, often in a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Develop production, modification, repair, refurbishment, checkout, and maintenance instructions, and advisories.
  • Perform and document first article inspections and production acceptance testing.
  • Support configuration identification and control.
  • Assist with technical project planning, estimating, execution, control, and reporting.
  • Assist with the development of technical elements of internal business cases and external customer proposals.

Experience/Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in a structural/mechanical/aerospace or related engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing techniques (advantages and limitations of each process), including: machining, welding, sheet metal folding, laser cutting, waterjet cutting, composite molds and lay-up.
  • Professional experience in the specification, design, analysis, manufacture, and test of structural and mechanical hardware products in aerospace or related industries, in particular uncrewed systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise with the application of structural analysis, mechanical design principles, in aerospace or related industries.
  • Proficient in the use of SolidWorks 3D CAD software.
  • Experience with carbon fibre, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, adhesives, fasteners and other aerospace materials.
  • Eligible for Australian Defence Security Clearance. Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements

Desirable

  • Experience in finite element analysis (linear, buckling, frequency, and thermal).
  • Experience with non-conforming material review, and other material management quality processes.
  • Experience Product in Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
  • Knowledge of engineering lifecycle, development methodologies, and rapid prototyping methodologies.
  • Experience using 3D printing manufacturing.
  • Experience with composite component design and manufacture.
  • Experience with heating/cooling design.
  • Prior experience working in or closely with the Australian Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG).
  • Prior experience with defence communications, uncrewed systems, tactical datalink systems and/or vehicle modification projects.
  • Experience with DASR compliance, specifically, Part 21J, Part 145M and UAS.
  • Experience in aerospace industry, particularly UAS.
