This position will be located at our Space Systems Sector in Dulles, VA. The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Tactical Space System.
Roles and Responsibilities:
In this role, under the supervision of an MBSAE Lead, you will perform duties contributing to general mission and/or space vehicle systems engineering activities. You could support and/or be responsible for developing requirements, design, integration, development or testing of air & space payloads, spacecraft buses, satellites, and manned or unmanned space systems.
Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is gaining more visibility as the preferred systems engineering approach for space system architects and engineers within both industry and government. To support the digital enterprise and meet the increasing demand for MBSE, Tactical Space Systems continues to mature its proven system-modeling capabilities (both descriptive and analytical) and aims to broaden the depth and breadth of its modeling staff to support our rapidly growing business areas. This position will provide the selected candidate an excellent opportunity to contribute to maturing our modeling capabilities to better support active program and business-development efforts across the division.
Responsibilities:

- Model space-system architectures (logical and physical) at multiple levels of abstraction across the Systems Engineering “V” model implementing both descriptive and analytical models to:
- Develop the system’s Concept of Operations (ConOps), including mission threads and use cases, mission phases, and mission activities.
- Describe the functions at each architectural layer, trace them to the developing requirements, and trace them to the other architectural layers.
- Describe the physical implementation of alternative design solutions (capturing composition, interfaces, performance) and mature the selected design throughout development.
- Capture the system verification and validation plan, map V&V activities to the system elements/requirements and support system V&V and customer buyoff.
- Facilitate review by product-line/program/proposal teams, subject-matter experts, stakeholders, and customers throughout development (and operations, if applicable).
- Exercise the models to perform impact assessments of proposed changes and support design decisions and modify the model to capture approved changes as the design matures.
- Support the Division MBSE Architect in developing domain-specific language (DSL) profile extensions to codify ontologies in various engineering and operations disciplines to reflect standards/best practices and enable seamless integration with other model-based applications
- Analyze current and future systems to address capability and integration gaps and create innovative system design concepts, capabilities, and approaches to sophisticated engineering projects
Basic Qualifications:
- Must be able to obtain Top Secret Clearance/SCI.
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related area, and minimum of 2 years of experience. Preference for degrees in systems engineering, computer science, or electrical engineering.
- Experience with Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and Unified Modeling Language (UML), including experience with developing SysML profiles to extend the language for domain-specific purposes.
- Proficiency with either Cameo Systems Modeler or Cameo Enterprise Architecture.
- Systems engineering skills, including ConOps development, activity/scenario analysis, requirements definition/allocation, functional decomposition, interface definition, verification & validation, requirements traceability to the test plans, & life-cycle management.
- Broad technical and MBSE experience, across multiple platforms, and spanning the product development lifecycle.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical systems knowledge of TSSD’s various ESPAStar product line variants.
- Experience with TSSD’s Integrated Model-Centric Engineering (IMCE) modeling approach, patterns, profiles, and tooling.
NOVASPACE
Salary Range: $89,400 - $134,200
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
