Systems Engineer

Templecombe, Somerset (3 days on site 2 days from home per week) – 12 month duration – Pay rate 60-70 p/h Ltd negotiable Outside IR35

We are looking for a Systems Engineer to work across the full lifecycle on a complex underwater sensor naval project. The Systems Engineering team carries out Systems Engineering activities covering the full lifecycle for Submarine, Surface Ships and Airborne Sonar and Command and Control systems.

We are looking for two contractors to work primarily within the Submarine Sonar domain, on both domestic and export programmes. The project is currently in an early phase so you have the potential to get involved from the outset.

 

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Supplier engagement and management (technical leaning)
  • Translating requirements into design detail and documentation
  • System definition activities – requirements definition, functional and physical definitions
  • Preparation and presentation of system level design reviews
  • Monitoring of emerging detailed design within various implementation teams – acoustic, hardware, mechanical, software etc
  • IVVQ planning and execution, including platform trials from time-to-time
  • Requirements sell-off and contract acceptance with customer
  • Customer and end-user liaison
  • Analysis of system performance
  • Alignment of Product vs Project

Requirements

  • Demonstrable relevant systems engineering design & development experience in the defence industry
  • Proven ability with supplier engagement and technical management
  • Specification and definition experience, such as translating requirements into design detail and documentation
  • Proven ability in systems engineering across the lifecycle
  • Strong analytical abilities with a methodical approach

Desirable

  • Knowledge of acoustic design and/or performance in underwater environment
  • Demonstrable knowledge on SONAR Systems
  • Knowledge of maritime domain operations and/or products (preferably Submarines)
  • DOORS practitioner
  • Working knowledge of architecture frameworks
  • System modelling skills (with either Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect or similar tool)
  • Familiarity with SCRUM methodology or JIRA

Additional Information

Please note, due to the sensitive nature of the project all candidates must be capable of gaining a UK MOD Security Clearance to SC level.

This role can operate Outside IR35
