Job Description SummaryThe Value Stream Team Design Engineer - Cost Execution is responsible for execution of engineering cost reduction projects across Edison Works core products in support of the MSO HK cost initiative. As such, your activities will contribute to the redesign for cost of products, solutions and systems across the CT7, T700, T408, F404, F414, and F110 product lines.

In this role, you will identify/integrate/develop existing and new processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within your functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business initiative.

This may include activities which drive technical improvement of existing products and components. Your role impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the Value Stream Team and as such you will have significant input into team priorities. Your role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Execute with limited guidance the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements.
  • Recommend approach to meet the technical and program requirements.
  • Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical requirements, schedules, and contract commitments.
  • Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems.
  • Provide technical guidance to other personnel and assigned teams, mentor others.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments.
  • Lead or participate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and/or tasks.
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited college or university (or high school diploma/GED with 6 years experience in design engineering).
  • A minimum 5 years of experience in an engineering position
  • Technical expertise in one or more of the following technologies: cold airfoils, controls, combustors, engine systems, inlets & exhaust, hot airfoils, mechanical systems, rotating parts, and structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan and manage programs.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Complex component, module or systems level analysis and/or hardware expertise
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in coordination / collaboration.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to guide / mentor and influence others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
