About the Role:
As a Milling Machine Machinist at PDS Tech Commercial, you will be tasked with setting up and operating a variety of milling machines to perform complex machining operations to exacting tolerances. From compound angles to helical milling, your work will be vital in producing parts used in cutting-edge aviation technology. You will have the chance to apply your technical expertise, interpret blueprints, and work with high-end equipment—all while ensuring the highest standards of quality control.
Key Responsibilities:
Milling Machine Operation: Set up and operate plain or universal, horizontal, or vertical milling machines to perform intricate operations such as compound angles, contours, helical and spiral milling, gear, spline, and keyway cutting.
Tool & Cutter Grinding: Apply your tool and cutter grinder experience to create and maintain sharp, precise cutting tools for all machining tasks.
Setup & Sequencing: Select, mount, and align various specialized machine attachments and tooling. Plan the sequence of operations, adjust speeds, feeds, and depth of cuts, and ensure setup is optimal for the task.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications to determine machining processes, sequence of operations, and required tolerances.
Precision Measuring & Marking: Use hand tools and precision measuring instruments to make shop computations, measure, span, and scribe dimensions for accurate machining.
Quality Control: Monitor and verify quality during the machining process, ensuring compliance with statistical process control and other quality standards.
Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, team members, and supervisors to meet project timelines and resolve any operational challenges.
Required Qualifications:
Tool & Cutter Grinder Experience: Proven experience in tool and cutter grinding is required for this role.
Machining Expertise: Extensive experience setting up and operating milling machines, specifically plain, universal, horizontal, or vertical models.
Precision Skills: Strong ability to perform complex machining operations, including boring angular holes, milling compound angles, and cutting gears and keyways.
Blueprint & Specification Reading: Advanced ability to interpret technical blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
Quality Control: Familiarity with statistical process control and other quality control procedures.
Education & Experience: Completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and at least 3-5 years of experience as a machinist. General machinists who do not perform their own setups or determine sequence of operations will not be considered.
Tooling & Setup: Ability to select, mount, and align specialized tooling and attachments.

Pay Details: $47.12 to $60.92 per hour
