Job Description SummaryThe Advanced Product Development section is responsible for the design, integration, testing, and support of advanced technologies for new and derivative engine concepts. Technology focus areas include military inlet & exhaust systems, integrated propulsion power & thermal management systems, advanced material systems, and other breakthrough component and system technologies to support the future of military flight.

The APD - Mechanical Design Advanced Lead Engineer will be part of an Integrated Product Team (IPT) focused on New Product Introduction in Military Engineering as a hardware owner and sub-team lead. Responsibilities will focus on the maturation of assigned hardware and sub-assemblies through the detailed design and procurement phases with the intent to support future test and qualification of assigned hardware. As an Advanced Lead Engineer, you will drive design efforts with guidance from experienced Team Leads & Controlled Title Holders in a mission-based team environment. Opportunities to collaborate with and direct small team and cross-functional efforts will develop through the maturation of the design. The role includes development of procedures and Lean best practices to meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.) for leveraging across the IPT.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
  • Includes indirect people management responsibility including staffing and performance development. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
  • Responsible for project planning activities, including work tasks, project scope, schedule and budget, and resource assignments.
  • Under guidance of your Team Lead, use judgment and propose different solutions to address more complicated processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles.  Use technical experience and analytical thinking.  Draw from multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.
  • Act as a focal for colleagues with less experience. Lead projects with determined risks and resource requirements. Explain information & develop skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field.  

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical, Aero, or other similar engineering degree from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in design engineering
  • Must have or have the ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance at the Secret level.

Desired Characteristics

  • Current US Government Security Clearance at the Secret level.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in design engineering
  • Hardware experience - design / manufacturing / field support
  • Material Review Board (MRB) certification
  • Stress Analysis (ANSYS)
  • Knowledge and understanding of GD&T, manufacturing, producibility
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to organize, motivate, guide and influence technical personnel and projects
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
