This position services and repairs aircraft components, including performing the most complex maintenance and repair operations. Performs advanced maintenance and repairs on fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft assigned to the Department in accordance with existing FAA Regulations. Work on piston engines as well as helicopter turbine engines, airframes of airplanes and helicopters, including sheet metal work. Is licensed under FAA to perform authorized inspections. May have responsibilities to train and direct the work of others.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies. The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service.
Required Education and Experience
Education:
- Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
Experience:
Aircraft Mechanic 8
- No specific type or amount is required.
Aircraft Mechanic 9
- Eighteen months of experience acquired under the direction of a certified aircraft mechanic.
Aircraft Mechanic E10
- Forty-two months of experience acquired under the direction of a certified aircraft mechanic, including two years equivalent to the Aircraft Mechanic 9.
Aircraft Mechanic 11
- Four years of experience as a licensed Aircraft Mechanic, including two years equivalent to the Aircraft Mechanic E10.
Alternate Education and Experience
Aircraft Mechanic 9
- Completion of an accredited aircraft mechanics course may be substituted for the experience requirement
