Aircraft Mechanic III (23023):

Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled / unscheduled maintenance. Processes the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported. Capable of performing, supervising and inspecting the duties of Mechanic Is, IIs and IIIs. A person in this position maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components, and applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation. This worker also applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems. A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. is required. Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike, must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule. This worker will be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records, and is responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.

Skill and Knowledge:

Shall have the ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems and be able to perform general Organizational and/

or Depot Level maintenance and possess one or more of the specialties of the assigned aircraft below:

Mechanical Flight Control Systems, Power Plants and related Sub-Systems, Fuel and Air Systems, Hydraulic/Pneumatic Systems, Rotor Systems, Flight Control Systems, and Transmission Drive Systems

  • Must be knowledgeable of technical directives, NAMP programs, and shall be knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures.
  • Aircraft Mechanic III shall have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy, and exhibit leadership and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.
  • Thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance records.
  • Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems.

Responsibility:

Performs requirements in accordance with the procedures established in the PWS. Performs diagnosis and corrective actions, disassembles, inspects, evaluates, and accomplishes necessary repairs, lays out work according to technical instructions and technical directives. Determines what repairs, modifications, and part replacements are required. May be required to verify work performed by another for which he/she is qualified to perform.

Task Requirements:

  • Performs duties as Team Lead
  • Familiar with duties assigned to personnel within all work centers.
  • Process Visual Information Display System/Maintenance Action Forms (VIDS/MAF) from aircrew or maintenance technicians in accordance with OPNAVINST 4790.2 Series, Navy, and Company Instructions.
  • Assists in coordinating aircraft moves and static display requirements.
  • Performs duties as Liaison with base personnel for other requirements to include but not limited to fueling / defueling operations, fire department and etc.
  • Performs all other required duties as applicable and assigned by supervision.
  • Performs aircraft organizational level maintenance functions on MV-22 aircraft.
  • Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance support for assigned MV-22 aircraft
  • Performs inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, corrosion control, preservation/de-preservation
  • Maintain aircraft and aeronautical equipment to continuously support the assigned readiness posture outlined in in the activities plan and daily flight schedule
  • Aircraft maintenance action documentation via logs, records, forms, and electronic means
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in pneumatic, ventilation and heating, flight surfaces and controls, dynamic components, and powerplant systems.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurement and diagnostic equipment, and sets kits and outfits (SKO).
  • Inspect, repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft components/sub components to include rigging of flight control.
  • Read and interpret manufacturers maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Confined space operations to include fuel cell entry
  • Support Equipment (SE) operation and inspections
  • Support services
  • General aircraft maintenance
  • Use chemical sealants.
  • Perform general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD free environment
  • Perform shift work and/or overtime as required
  • Requisition repair parts, materials, and consumable supplies through military supply system.
  • Perform other tasks as directed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Eight or more years’ experience with NALCOMIS/OOMA
  • Eight or more years’ organizational maintenance experience.
  • Eight or more years’ of 4790 (NAMP) program knowledge.
  • Naval Aviation Maintenance Control Management for Optimized Organization Maintenance Activity course (C-555-0053) or if previously completed, both the Naval Aviation Maintenance Control Management course (Course D/E-555-0040) and the Naval Aviation Officer and Senior Supervisor NALCOMIS OOMA Familiarization course (Course D/E-555-0054).
  • Familiarity and ability to use NAVAIR IETMS.
  • Advanced Corrosion Control Course
  • Automated Track and Balancing System (ATABS) Course (NATEC provides)
  • Previously certified MV-22 CDQAR

Basic Qualifications:

  • Two or more years’ MV-22B O-Level and/or D-Level maintenance experience
  • Shall be able to obtain Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Inspector qualification within 60 days of employment
  • Must be able to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift or as required.
  • Basic Corrosion Control Course.
  • Must be able work flexible work-week schedules as required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check Local Records Check and Credit (NACLC).
  • Must satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check Local Records Check and Credit (NACLC) or Access National Agency Check with written Inquiries (ANACI)

    resulting in eligibility for a SECRET clearance which shall be required of employees assigned to perform:

    • Maintaining MV-22 Avionics Systems.
    • Handling and/or storage of COMSEC equipment.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and aircraft.
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools.
  • Must have dexterity to handle small parts.
  • Must be able to deploy to support off station exercises and perform other support duties as assigned.
  • Must be eligible for Common Access Card (CAC).

Compensation

$42.82/hour

Other Compensation

Employees receive a health and welfare benefit of $7.75 per hour paid up to 40 hours per week.
