Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic II

daily/weekly workload requirements.
Responsible for inspecting, training personnel, and performing organizational, intermediate and depot level
maintenance/modification on contract units, sub-systems, support equipment and related weapons system. Advise team
members and solve unusual maintenance problems by analysis and test engines, pneudraulic, fuel, electrical/electronic
systems, etc. Acts as Special Maintenance Technical Advisor to the Site or Team Supervisor. Position reports to the
•Services, repairs and overhaul equipment and engines.
•Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds equipment and engine components, fuel systems (including cells, tanks and fuel/metering
•control systems), and functional components using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills.)
•Inspects and repairs power plants (engines) malfunctions, including cracked components, oil leaks, etc.
•Diagnoses malfunctions, isolate causes and correct breaks.
•Test engine operations, using testing equipment to locate source of malfunction.
•Replaces and repairs damaged components, uses hand tools, gauges, and tests equipment.
•Removes engine and major components from equipment, using hoist or other lifting devices.
•Disassembles and inspects parts for wear, warping, or other defects.
•Repairs and replaces defective engine components and reassemble and install engine on weapon systems and vehicles.
•Adjusts, repairs, or replaces instruments, electrical/electronics, fuel/oil systems and accessories.
•Performs vehicle services, including engine flush/cleaning, parts lubrication, and maintenance checks.
•May service engine components operations making repairs and overhaul, required to ensure safe operating condition.
•May specialize in repair and modification of engines, structural components, precision repair, functional spare parts, and assemblies.
•Recommends revisions to maintenance procedures to improve efficiency and ensure quality workmanship.
•Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
3.15.1 AIRCRAFT SHEET METAL MECHANIC (Wage Determination Occupation, 23022 Aircraft Mechanic II): The Aircraft Mechanic II maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate
difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics,
pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components, applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in
determining equipment malfunctions and applies required expertise in restoring equipment condition and or operation, and
applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation
such as; blueprints or manufactures' manuals.
Job requirements: Must have a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and
replacement of parts, requires broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair, must have basic
knowledge of electrical theory, must have thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque
wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers. This job requires working knowledge of technical
publications. The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, will
occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may be required to make entries in
aircraft logs and records. Must be able to prioritize workload in order to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
Contractor personnel shall perform a full range of aircraft sheet metal duties including, but not limited to, disassemble, modify,
repair, and reassemble complex aircraft metal items and systems, e.g., bulkheads, airframes, spars, air scoops, wings, flaps,
pylons, sponsons, fuselages, skins, ribs, gussets and fuel tanks. These items and systems have combined straight and curved
edges and irregular curves and planes. Contractor personnel shall analyze and evaluate structural damage to metal systems
and items; develop patterns using a combination of parallel and radial line development; fabricate, install, and repair a variety
of items and systems made from a wide variety of metals, e.g., stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb, alloys,
aluminum; replace sections and patch old systems; cut, bend, shape, and form metals for items that have numerous irregular
angles, planes, and curves with varying pitch and circumference; use a variety of assembly joints, complex fastening
systems, riveted or welded joints, drill or punch holes; and assemble or repair items by seaming, soldering, bolting, screwing,
riveting, tacking, and spot welding. Assembly methods shall meet appearance and strength standards, as well as critical
tolerances. As a condition of employment Contractor personnel will be required to pass a FRCSE administered certification
skills examination. Contractor personnel shall use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, protractors, snap ring, height,
depth, dial and screw pitch gauges, squares, rulers, trammel points, and sine bars. Contractor personnel will also be required
to use oxyacetylene cutting torches and electric arc welding machines. Contractor personnel shall have at least two years of documented experience in Aerospace and/or Aircraft Sheet
metal procedures and processes. The Contractor shall provide verification to the COR of this experience during the first 30
days of performance and/or upon hiring. FRCSE Quality Assurance personnel will provide Contractor personnel with cold
working/hole quality special skill certification training and will provide and subject Contractor personnel to recertification
requirements pursuant to FRCSEINST 4855.6C Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) 6.2-5(6.4). The Government will bear
the cost of all Cold Working/Hole Quality Special Skill Certification and Recertification training and instruction as required by

*Minimum Requirements  
•High school graduate or equivalent is desirable.
•Five (5) years actual and recent, vehicle or missile, or related weapon systems experience desired; three (3) years required.
•Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.
•In accordance with the contract, all personnel performing work require United States citizenship or acceptable proof of naturalization prior to employment.
•Thorough knowledge of technical publications related to weapon systems and vehicles.
•Must have knowledge of the scope and limitation of various categories of maintenance and their application to the contract unit.
•Must know theory and principles of engine operations; accessories and components; electrical and electronic; pneudraulic; and mechanical principles.
•Knowledge of sheet metal, properties of materials, fuels, and oils.
•Must be able to read, interpret and use manufacturers maintenance manuals, service bulletins, blueprints, wiring and schematic diagrams, data tables and other specifications to determine feasibility and method to repair or replace malfunctioning or damaged components.
•Must be able to inspect, repair, and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.
•Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.

The Sheet Metal Worker Candidates are required to Prep and Layout the material IAW the provided drawing. Prior to
installation of fasteners, the project to this point is evaluated by the FRC instructor and in the case of a contractor the Site
Manager or Program Manager. Then the candidate is given instruction per the drawing to install 5 rows of different type of
fasteners Hi-Loks, Solid Buttons, Flush, Countersink's.
*Preferred Qualifications  
F-18 and/or close tolerance sheet metal experience preferred.
