Job Description:

The Chief Inspector is responsible to the Accountable Manager for the overall operation of the Quality Department and has final authority for releasing of articles back into service.

The Chief Inspector has authority over and is responsible for directing, planning and laying out the details for inspection standards, methods and procedures used by the Repair Station in complying with all applicable CFRs, manufacturer’s specifications and recommendations.

The Chief Inspector has authority and responsibility for the record systems.

The Chief Inspector is responsible for performing an initial audit for contract vendors, and to reevaluate vendors as required.

Duties:

  • Assist, supervise, and direct all personnel assigned to the Quality Department. Direct oversight of inspectors unfamiliar with specific methods or techniques in the Quality Department.
  • Ensures all inspections are performed correctly on all completed work, and the proper inspection records, reports, and forms used by the Repair Station are completed and executed before releasing the product for return to service.
  • Determine no defective, unserviceable, or unairworthy parts are installed in any component or article released by the Repair Station.
  • Submit reports of defects or unairworthy condition per 14CFR§145.221.
  • The Chief Inspector writes, reviews, and revises the RSQCM. He is authorized to revise the Manual. He also evaluates the impact of any changes to the RSQCM upon related processes and procedures in this document. The Chief Inspector notifies all Repair Station personnel of relevant changes to the RSQCM.
  • Maintains the Capability List and notifications to the CHDO.
  • Coordinates and liaises with the assigned FAA Principal Inspectors (PI).
  • Serves as the liaison with all customers and regulatory entities.
  • Maintains the Employee Personnel files, summaries, and assessments.
  • Tracks and schedules training for all employees in the Maintenance Department.
  • Ensures the proper execution of maintenance release.
  • Oversees the final acceptance of all incoming material, including new parts, supplies, and the airworthiness of articles on which work is performed, outside the repair station.
  • Oversees the preliminary, hidden damage, in-progress, and final inspections of all articles maintained by the Repair Station and the recording of results of such inspections.
  • Oversees the proper tagging and identification of all parts and components as outlined in this Manual.
  • Ensures unairworthy parts are segregated and quarantined in such a way as to prevent their reuse as serviceable parts.
  • Ensures all inspections are adequately performed on all completed work before approval for return to service, and that the proper inspection and maintenance records, reports and forms required for each release are recorded.
  • Ensures the proper inspection records, reports, and forms used by the Repair Station are available to all inspection personnel.
  • Compiles completed work orders and inspection forms in such a manner that once filed information about a specific item can be readily located for reference or review.
  • Ensures the responsible technicians correctly executes complete entries on forms and work orders used by the Repair Station.
  • Ensures procedures used in procurement and reception of aircraft parts guards against unapproved parts from entering the supply chain and ensures any such parts are detected before their use.
  • Ensures the accuracy of entries into forms, maintenance logs, and workorders, before the final release to service.
  • Is responsible for determining the appropriate action(s) to be taken when deficiencies are discovered or reported, freedom to make key decisions about safety risk and changes within the organization.
  • Maintains and revises the Personnel Roster
  • Performs or directs the Self-Evaluation for adding articles to the Capability List.
  • Is responsible for auditing vendors and inspecting articles returning to the Repair Station from vendors.
Job Requirements:
  • The Chief Inspector must feel comfortable with PC’s (MS Word & Excel, EBIS, and CAMP) and interacting with customers and vendors via phone, email, text, online forums and in person.
  • Must have 10 years plus experience In an FAR 145 operation.
  • Airframe and Power Plant License
  • Inspection Authorization (IA)
  • Valid Driver’s license
