JOB PURPOSE

To manage and coordinate functions assigned in the performance of aircraft quality control inspection to ensure airworthiness of aircraft.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.  Requires occasional bending, climbing, stooping, squatting, crouching, or kneeling. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.   Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Work Location:  Aircraft maintenance hangar, maintenance offices, flightline.

Potential Hazards:   Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, materials identified on Safety Data Sheets, working around moving machinery.

Protective Equipment Required:  Hearing protection.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manages and coordinates functions of the Quality Control Department including aircraft inspection, component inspection, NDT and receiving inspection and the Calibration Laboratory ensuring that all work performed complies with applicable technical data, FAA regulations and repair station procedures.
  • Ensures that all inspections are properly performed as described in the RSM/QCM and applicable technical data.
  • Ensures proper inspection records, reports and forms used by the repair station are properly executed prior to the release of the product for return to service.
  • Maintains active liaison with the FAA on aircraft inspections and ensures FAR required reports are properly completed.
  • Ensures that the QC Authorization Roster and related Employment Summaries are kept current.
  • Ensures inspection personnel are proficient as described within the RSM/QCM.
  • Ensures all persons authorized to approve an article for return to service under the repair station certificate and operations specifications are certificated under FAR Part 65 and able to understand, read, and write English; and listed on the QC Authorization Roster
  • Ensures inspections are performed in accordance with the aircraft operator’s approved inspection program including Required Inspection Items.
  • Maintains a list of current RII inspectors for each operator and ensures proper distribution.
  • Researches items that are past due calibration to determine actual status (e.g. lost tool, out for repair, etc.) and ensure all past due equipment is returned to the calibration laboratory.
  • When notified of an out-of-tolerance equipment condition, reviews past use of the device to determine the risk that nonconforming articles were approved.
  • Studies and reviews production schedules and estimates worker-hour requirements for completion of job assignments.  Adjusts work procedures as needed and recommends measures for improved efficiency.
  • Develops operating objectives and staffing requirements.
  • Ensures that training and development needs are identified, and programs initiated.
  • Ensures that qualified personnel are selected and that the orientation and on-the-job training programs are conducted and effective.

Marginal Job Functions:

  • Coordinates with customers regarding projects in work.
  • Coordinates with other departments/managers as necessary.
  • Presents updates of departmental activities at management meetings.
  • Participates in audits and investigations as needed to help determine root cause, corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitors performance of subordinates.  Provides prompt and objective coaching and counseling.  Conducts performance appraisals.
  • Ensures that the Company’s management principles, policies, and programs are consistently practiced.  Recommends and coordinates with Human Resources Department personnel actions such as hires, promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.
  • Ensures optimum performance of the Quality Control department functions.  Recommends and implements techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state of the art practices.
  • Participates in the engine run and taxi authorization program.
  • Keeps abreast of current trends and practices in field of expertise and provides recommendations for improvements and policy change.
  • Acts within scope of authority and consistent with company and corporate objectives, guidelines, policies, and practices and recommends programs or procedures employing original ideas and methods as necessary.
  • Communicates on the telephone.
  • Ensure that all work performed is done in a safe manner. Directs activities to protect employees from harm and maintain safe working conditions.

SMS REQUIREMENTS

  • Manager & Supervisors with the overall responsibility for the financial, safety, quality and employee performance of their operation is the person who ensures Ascent Aviation’s policies and procedures are complied with and ensures Federal, State, and local laws, ordinances and rules are equally enforced and adhered to.
  • The Managers / Supervisors will be responsible to ensure that all required routine performance audits are complied with and are conducted and reported within the specified timeframe. The Managers/Supervisors/Leads shall ensure all corrective action is complied with and maintained in accordance with the agreed plan. 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Ability to organize and plan work adhering to deadlines;  excellent communication skills including ability  to read, write, and understand the English language and to follow and administer verbal and written instruction; excellent  leadership, two-way communication, judgement, creativity, negotiation and conflict resolution skills; ability to interpret and apply  technical data such as maintenance scheduling documents MSG-2, MSG-3, Aging Aircraft, etc.; ability to adjust to rapidly changing circumstances and priorities; ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations; basic knowledge of human behavior and management techniques.  Basic computer skills in general office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Education/Training:  High School diploma or equivalent required.  Bachelor’s Degree in aviation management or related discipline or equivalent combination of education, training or experience required.  Training certificates for General Familiarization and/or Systems Training in much of the transport category aircraft maintained by the repair station such as Boeing 717, 727, 737, 747, 757, 767, 777; Airbus A320 series, A330; McDonnell Douglas DC-9, DC-10, MD11, MD80/90.

Experience:  Minimum of five years’ experience in transport category aircraft inspection management preferred

Certificates/Licenses:  FAA A&P Certificate required.  Valid Arizona driver’s license required.

Other: May be required to work at both Marana, AZ and Tucson, AZ locations as business needs dictate.
