JOB DESCRIPTION: AIRCRAFT APPRENTICE MECHANIC
FLSA STAUS: NON-EXEMPT
REPORT TO: DIRECTOR OF MAINTENANCE
Southern Airways is expanding and seeking aircraft apprentice mechanics interested in preparing for the FAA A&P Certificate for a long-term career in aviation maintenance. Apprentices will receive company initial training and then be assigned to a shift working in a hangar on aircraft under the supervision of a lead mechanic. The ideal candidate:
• Has taken an aircraft maintenance course at a college, technical school, or military school and has some practical experience.
• Should obtain an A&P certificate after 30 months of practical experience (OJT) concurrently performing the duties appropriate to both the airframe and powerplant ratings.
• Has excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Can read, write, and speak English effectively.
• Is professional in appearance and manner.
• Is courteous in all interactions.
• Is a team player.
• Is detail oriented.
Requirements for the position:
• Ability to maintain SIDA access.
• Ability to work within a 24/7 operation including holidays.
• Ability to pass a 10-year background check and pre-employment drug screen.
• Able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays based on the needs of the business.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow maintenance manuals, drawings, and wiring prints.
• Able to document on-the-job training and successfully complete training as required by the company.
• Basic computer skills.
• At least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. per the Immigration Act of 1986.
• Ownership/possession of basic tools to complete the job tasks.
Physical Requirements:
• Able to bend, squat, kneel and stand for extended periods of time.
• Able to lift 40 pounds.
• Able to work in adverse weather conditions.
• Must be able to meet all physical requirements related to aircraft weight limitations before and during employment
This is a full-time paid position, with benefits, which has salary increases with verification of each FAA Mechanic Certificate earned.
