Inspect a wide variety of purchased raw materials (including castings, forgings, tubing, sheet, bar, and strip stock), incoming parts and material, in accordance with Inspection Method Sheets (IMS), Quality Assurance Directives (QAD), Product Integrity Procedures (PIP) or other established methods for conformance to drawing and purchase order specifications.
Essential Functions:
- Check raw materials received against accompanying paperwork for correct part number, serial number, quantity, presence of heat code number, proper markings and inspection stamps.
- Record quantities of acceptable material and any deviations on receiving report.
- Using micrometers, Vernier calipers, precision steel rule or a tape measure perform routine inspection operations to check overall dimensions of raw materials such as length, width, height, depth, thickness, inside and outside diameters for compliance with casting or forging drawing and purchase order specifications. Make simple layouts on castings and forgings as necessary.
- Check castings visually for indications of core shifts, presence of foreign materials, porosity, blow holes, sand, shrinkage, and warping. Check samples received to ensure that identifying information agrees with that of the shipment.
- Forward samples and raw materials to Material Control Laboratory (MCL) for additional review as required.
- Mark heat code number, purchase order number and inspection quality level on material using appropriate approve marking material.
- Prepare report of Nonconformance for materials that require quality review and release parts for source evaluation as required.
- Check paperwork for completion of all inspection operations and stamps affixed to paperwork prior to release to rough stores. Check outgoing materials from Rough and Finished Stores to assure status of parts are in compliance with inspection requirements.
- Comply with the correct operation, care, use and maintenance of equipment, housekeeping, and safe work practices.
- Maintain and review logs, records, systems, build and test sheets and prepare reports as required.
- Operate hoists, lifting devices, and fork lift truck as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Comply with environmental/safety regulations and programs requirements to ensure safe working conditions and to preserve a healthy environment. Comply with company quality and continuous improvement initiatives. Keep current with training certifications for compliance with governmental and company regulations.
- May be required to train for, obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits and certifications for assigned area.
