This opportunity is specific to Parkers Electronic Motion & Controls Division (EMC), an exciting and fast-paced environment providing technologies that create and control motion to customers across a wide range of applications and industries. This critical position allows you to become part of a team that aligns products and worldwide engineering and manufacturing capabilities to build our presence in a growing electrification space. EMC brings together decades of controls and electronics design and manufacturing expertise with significant growth opportunities presented by our mobile electrification and industrial efforts.
Position Summary
Mechanical Designers are responsible for all aspects of the mechanical design of products, including electronic controllers, displays, sensors and other devices. Product assemblies typically include complex injection molded plastic parts or die-cast aluminum parts, plus other mechanical (and electronic) parts/materials. Mechanical designers are responsible for supporting and improving existing products, and resolving customer and production issues that arise.
Responsibilities
Technical
- Analyze mechanical design related field failures and manufacturing problems, to determine root cause and implement corrective actions.
- Produce fully detailed design documentation, including 3D CAD assembly and part models, plus 2D CAD drawings, artworks, and renderings, using PTC Creo software and other CAD tools.
- Estimate Mechanical Design tasks and time, and mechanical part and tooling costs.
- Develop mechanical form/fit/function details for assemblies and components, including geometry, dimensions and tolerances and clearances, alignment and mating features, fastening and sealing features, material properties and selection, and fabrication processes.
- Perform design optimization, analysis, and simulation of assemblies and parts using ANSYS software and other FEA tools and techniques. This may include tolerance stack-up analysis, differential CTE analysis, static and dynamic structural analysis, thermal management analysis, and mold flow analysis.
- Identify and oversee Mechanical Design experiments and informal tests, to reduce design risk and verify or optimize mechanical design choices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design related issues arising during product development, test, and evaluation.
- Review and understand customer requirements and participate in developing product specifications for new products.
Other
- Participate in Mechanical Design Review and DFMEA processes, and document mechanical design tasks using designated processes and software tools.
- Understand and leverage rapid prototyping technologies during product development.
- Understand and account for Design for Manufacturing (DFM) factors, to ensure or improve the manufacturability of a product.
- Understand the cost and time constraints imposed by the project plan on assigned mechanical design tasks, and complete tasks in an effective and timely manner.
- Assist Manufacturing and Test Engineering to design jigs and fixtures related to a given product.
- Work closely with Project Managers and multi-disciplinary Project Teams, to ensure that both internal and external customer requirements are satisfied.
- Provide input for SR&ED reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
