Quality Inspector (CMM) - Level 1 (2nd Shift)
Job Description:

Set up and operation of CMM in the inspecting of aerospace alloys for the gas turbine engine industry; adhering to safety standards and procedures; maintaining a standard of quality recognized within the aerospace community; achieving productivity standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled set up and operation of CMM which includes changeover of fixtures, touch probes and scanning probes.
  • Understand and interpret standard drawing tolerances and GD&T.
  • Perform inspections from drawings and written work instructions.
  • Utilize basic mathematical skills to measure and record dimensional items with accuracy and efficiency. Ability to input data to determine process capability.
  • Responsible for his/her part quality and utilizes standard and custom measuring equipment to perform dimensional checks.
  • Performs visual inspections of machined parts.
  • Maintains machines in operational condition by performing daily preventive maintenance checks on the fixture, probe racks and cleaning of the CMMs.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts through verbal or documented communication for required actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Performs other related work as required.
  • Ability to use gauges to perform manual checks
  • Communicate with manufacturing on first piece acceptance and stopping processes due to failing parts.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Working conditions

  • Constant exposure to indoor manufacturing environment.
  • Constant exposure to moderate noise.
  • Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes/odors, and hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds on a repetitive basis.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat climb, kneel, twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis for eight to twelve hours a day.
  • Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, power grasping, pushing, and pulling of materials and fine manipulation.
  • Must be able to reach and work above and below the shoulder level is frequently performed on a continuous basis.
  • Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.
  • Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Skill in performing work which requires eye hand coordination.
  • Visual acuity skill to detect any flaws in the parts being produced.
  • Willingness to stand or sit for extended periods of time in performing job duties

Additional Requirements

  • Requires the use of judgment and ability to plan and make decisions concerning set-up, operations, and processing of cutting requirements on more than one piece of equipment simultaneously.
  • Prior CMM experience is preferred
  • Must have completed 90-day introductory period.
  • Must have been in current position for a minimum of six (6) months.
  • Must be in good standing – no written or final level corrective actions.

Skills

  • Previous intermediate knowledge of hand layout checks and the ability to demonstrate reading a print and performing a layout.
  • Previous visual inspection experience, detailed defect identification.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the CMM process and inspection set up and operation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot inspection processes and determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • In depth knowledge of how to use various measuring tools to ensure parts meet customer needs.
  • Knowledge and operation of inspection equipment such as, CMM, optical comparator, wax-and-trace machine.
  • Skill in following directions both verbal and written and in transferring instructions into action.
  • Ability to work with little direct supervision.
