Job Description:
  • Assists the lead person in directing the maintenance activities of assigned personnel. 
  • Performs the duties of a Level II according to MIL-STD-410 to perform nondestructive inspections of aircraft, engines, and ground support equipment. 
  • Assists in the training and direction of assigned personnel. 
  • Performs both on and off-equipment maintenance. 
  • Performs tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Performs NDI of aircraft, engine components, and ground support equipment, using eddy current, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, radiographic, ultrasonic, and visual inspection methods; develops, processes, and interprets radiographs. 
  • Participates in the development and documentation of new NDI techniques. 
  • Performs and monitors NDI testing, including that associated with TCTO related inspections IAW applicable technical data. 
  • Informs maintenance personnel to the extent and location of each defect detected during NDI activities. 
  • Documents each defect on the applicable form(s), specifying the extent and location. 
  • Annotates maintenance actions in aircraft records and is proficient in CAMS documentation. 
  • Evaluates training requirements and conducts training of assigned personnel using demonstration/performance- type training methods. 
  • Assists in evaluating the proficiency of NDI personnel for certification purposes.
  • Implements process controls and performs operator maintenance of assigned NDI equipment. 
  • Practices good housekeeping, tool control, and FOD awareness/prevention, and safety at all times.
  • May be selected to perform special certifications including Red X inspections. 
  • In coordination with the section supervisor and the training specialist, provides on-the-job training of employees and evaluation of employee qualifications. 
  • Shall assist other personnel and work centers as directed. 
  • Must promote Company values, policies, and standards of conduct. 
  • Must be customer oriented and ensure professional coordination with base agencies. 
  • Shall perform other duties assigned to include TDY and travel. 
  • Must be able to work day shift, night shift, or weekend duty as required. 
  • Receives cross-utilization training and is qualified to perform those maintenance task
Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or the equivalent is required. 
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. 
  • Must have the skills and knowledge to set up and calibrate equipment, conduct tests, and to interpret, evaluate, and document skills. 
  • A thorough knowledge of the scope and limitations of each of the stated NDI methods is required. 
  • An awareness of the need for and the limitations of test standards is required. 
  • A working knowledge of the types and locations of defects to be expected is required.
  • Possession of a valid NDI Level II Examiner certificate is required. 
  • Graduation from the U.S. Air Force NDI school or the equivalent is required. 
  • A minimum of four years recent in NDI testing methods is required. 
  • Training in spectrometric oil analysis is desired. 
  • Qualification to direct and perform inspections under each of the methods in which certification was obtained is required.  
  • The ability to meet the vision standards specified in MIL-STD 410 is required. 
  • Must be able to complete and maintain all special certification items as specified in AETC regulations/instructions. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a flight line driver’s license and may be required to obtain and maintain a class CDL.
  • Physical exertion requirement is heavy.

The amount of experience stated for each of the following NDI testing methods is required:

  • Eddy current 1330 hours plus 52 hours of training
  • Magnetic particle 530 hours plus 20 hours of training
  • Liquid penetrant 400 hours plus 16 hours of training
  • Radiographic 1600 hours plus 80 hours of training
  • Ultrasonic 1600 hours plus 80 hours of training
  • Six months of experience in oil analysis is desired.
