The Dimensional Inspector ensures all parts are inspected and accurate measurements are recorded before the product is delivered to the customer using UTT, PI tapes, CMM and handheld precision measuring tools.

JOB DUTIES

  • Visually inspects wax patterns prior to cleaning, soluble cores, developmental and prototype assemblies, and tools for surface defects and flaws.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools to assist in visually inspect.
  • Performs Statistical Process Control calculations using pre-established formulas to determine if dimensions are within acceptable ranges or if process is in control.
  • Ensures all vanes are UTT inspected for accuracy, track all discrepancies and log as appropriate.
  • Works with engineers to establish and test inspection techniques.
  • Works with engineers to identify and resolve problems of surface and dimensional defects.
  • Enters dimensional data into computer for engineering purposes.
  • May train less skilled personnel as assigned.
  • Assists with coordination of wax flow into the cleaning and assembling areas.
  • Assists assembly operators when needed to manipulate assembled patterns
  • Writes deviation requests as needed.
  • Writes and updates all CMM standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Production departments.
  • Maintains dimensional data collection and integrity according to quality measure.
  • Provides recommendations on software upgrades and implements all approved changes.
  • Provides training and support to production CMM technicians as needed.
  • Maintains preventative maintenance schedule on CMM machine and log as appropriate.
  • Makes corrections to wax setters to ensure proper sizing as needed.
  • Maintain punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude.
  • Respectfully take direction from Management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years’ experience as a manual machinist or mold maker apprentice.
  • Working knowledge of dimensional tools and basic dimensional inspection techniques as demonstrated by one year of competently performing Wax Molding, or Assembly Inspector.
  • An equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience.
  • Ability to perform wax dimensional inspection applying proper techniques.
  • Ability to read precision hand tools.
  • Familiarity with all common dimensional inspection tools including 3D scanning tools, go/no gauges, micrometers, height gauges, calipers and pi tapes is preferred.
  • Familiarity with surface plate inspection setups.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow specifications on Tech Cards, blueprints, and drawings.
  • 25/20 correctable vision and satisfactory passage of depth perception and color visions tests.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and mathematical skills.
  • Excellent organization and documentation skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand, walk, climb, push, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
