Job Description SummaryThe Airworthiness & Quality Assurance Leader will primarily support Quality Assurance activities for GE Aerospace Flight Test Operations (FTO) under the guidance of the Quality Manager. This role will encompass internal and external quality activities, shop and vendor audits, regulatory and customer investigations, and the opportunity to continuously improve both procedural compliance and overall shop quality awareness. This role may also serve as a delegate inspector for Quality Control (QC) on Repair Station and Test Enabling Hardware. Drives initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the Engineering function and interfaces with other functions to provide effective coordination of metrics, dashboards, functional processes, and cross-functional initiative coordination. Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Act as Quality interface with GE Aerospace FTO internal and external customers. Work across functions to assure proper Quality issues are managed to minimize impact on safety, quality and training.
  • Measure, analyze and continually improve quality and procedural issues throughout the business. Review trends and implement process improvements.
  • Analyze data to identify areas for improvement in the quality system and processes; develop, recommend, and monitor corrective and preventive actions.
  • Review and update internal quality system documents to reflect those current procedures are in line with 14 CFR Part 91 Operations, 14 CFR Part 145 Repair Stations and internal QMS requirements.
  • Maintain all site regulatory body approvals, including continual review and implementation of changes to ensure compliance.
  • Undertake internal audits and provide an independent view of the quality management system performance.
  • Work with both Regulatory and Customer auditors, leading and managing audit teams as required to ensure compliance to stipulated standards.
  • Conduct vendor and supplier audits and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Promote quality engagement within the organization & identify quality concerns and improvement opportunities.
  • Raise awareness across the site and drive a pro-active quality culture.
  • Organize and work with quality excellence team assisting them in the preparation and maintenance of quality audits, proactive quality assessments, and other risk identification/abatement processes.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information, developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field.
  • Prepare, communicate, and oversee quality plans. Assure that adequate inspection / test plans are defined and supervise on their correct application.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing quality policies, procedures, practices, and instructions.
  • Investigate and conduct Root Cause Analysis following customer complaints, quality escapes, non-conformance issues or other quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor and discuss with team members quality metrics (KPIs), trends, procedure changes, corrective action status, Lesson Learned etc. on a regular basis.
  • Oversee fulfillment of contractual and regulatory requirements to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction. Capture lessons learned to continually improve execution processes.
  • Assist the Quality Manager with developing and implementing Safety Management System (SMS) for FTO.
  • Work closely with Quality Control (QC) and maintain delegate inspector responsibilities for repair station and test enabling hardware. 
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college in aviation sciences, quality systems, engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 5 or more years of diversified maintenance experience with large transport category aircraft. This experience may be with an air carrier, commercial operator, certificated repair station, or other government agency.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.  We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain US government security clearance
  • Valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible and off-shift hours (including 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift, nights, weekends, and holidays) when business needs dictate.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and support operations at offsite locations when business needs dictate.
  • Ability and willingness to fly aboard an experimental aircraft including participation in development flight tests.
  • Ability to meet all requirements of Zero Tolerance DOT/FAA Drug and Alcohol Testing Program. (14 CFR Part 120 and 49 CFR Part 40).

  • Knowledgeable about 14 CFR Part 91 Operations, 14 CFR Part 145 Repair Stations and Quality Principles in manufacturing and maintenance/overhaul environments.
  • Ability to establish priorities in a fast-moving dynamic experimental flight test operation and aircraft maintenance and operation environment.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company as well as organizations outside GE, i.e., regulatory agencies and subject matter experts.
  • Experience leading teams directly or indirectly; team champion and advocate, with effective leadership/team building skills. Ability to guide, coach and influence others.
