JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Assistant Director of Safety reports to and works closely with the Director of Safety. The Assistant Director of Safety supports the implantation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS) within the organization. This role works closely with the Director of Safety and Safety Committee to ensure compliance with federal, state, and company regulations while promoting a culture of safety throughout flight, maintenance, and medical operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain safety documentation; specifically, the SMS manual will be maintained as a controlled document and the requirements listed will be kept current and in good order.
- Develop and recommend safety goals and objectives for the Director of Safetys consideration.
- Collectively with the Director of Safety, revise and update the stated safety goals and objectives at least annually.
- Assist in developing and implementing the Emergency Response Program.
- Monitor SMS performance and create performance reports for other managers and the Director of Safety, as directed.
- Facilitate hazard identification and risk management.
- Determine the need for and coordinate development of required safety training materials prescribed by national, state, and local laws and regulations or industry best practices.
- Evaluate employee hazard identifications for risk and recommend action.
- Receive, evaluate, and process all employee hazard reports in accordance with the SMS manuals requirements and recommend action to mitigate risk.
- Monitoring safety concerns in the aviation industry and their perceived impact on Survival Flights operations.
- Monitor employee training programs to ensure that safety, health, and environmental information presented is current and satisfies applicable government rules and meets Survival Flight needs.
- Encourage and guide Safety Promotion activities.
- Facilitate the Safety Committees Risk Management activities initiated from reported Hazards, Incidents and Accidents, Internal Evaluation Program Findings and Risks associated with Change Management.
- Actively engage in the organizations implementation and maintenance of an effective and "Just" Safety Culture.
- Foster an environment of openness through employee communications and engagement.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years of Aviation Safety experience
- 3+ years of Safety related experience
- Ability to make independent decisions and be able to independently resolve issues with demonstrated ability to execute at a high level.
- Strong technical skills with computer products
- Advanced verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities with a focus on results.
- Experience supporting a multi-state organization.
- Willing to travel to support the SMS
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: (ALL the Above +)
- Bachelors degree in aviation, safety management, or a related field
- FAA Pilot or Maintenance Certificate
- Certified in aviation safety.
- Previous Safety Manager training
