Cargo Systems Manager- Temporary (12 months contract)
Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating the current and future business operations/ process design and implementation for IT related business systems pertinent to the Department, working closely with the business, Emirates/IT and external vendors.  


Additionally, the right candidate would also support systems development from a business perspective to maximise performance efficiency, return on investment, meet regulatory and safety needs, process analysis and automation translating into tangible productivity increases, cost savings, information system enhancements and promotion of Cargo Systems among the user community, in synch with the businesses strategic, tactical and operational strategy. 


In this role, you will:



  • Provide direction to the group of Cargo Systems Analysts in the design, development and management of current and future Cargo Business Systems and to improve revenues and efficiencies without compromising on the immediate business requirements and the overall vision of the division.   

  • Manage the business project activities on a day-to-day basis and develop a Network wide implementation and training strategy so there is least disruption to the business

  • Validate and analyse current and future business needs. Understand and document the organisation’s existing business processes and interact with business owners, senior management, regulatory authorities, logistics partners and customers to document the future business processes aligning with long term goals and strategies of the organisation. Ensure that the processes can be handled in the new or enhanced cargo system

  • Constantly identify cost savings and process efficient functionality. Prioritise functionality to ensure deliverables are prioritised to implement solutions within the defined time schedules keeping the global benefit and not individual business owners in mind.

  • Serve as senior subject matter advisor for assigned functional domains. Pro-actively participate in achieving the IT and business strategic objectives of the Department, by sourcing, validating and providing required information to develop business system enhancement proposals and manage process change, communication, business testing, implementation, user requirements and operation thereafter

  • Review, analyse and evaluate the documents produced by IT/External vendors to ensure that the entire documents accurately reflect all the business needs. Interact with the process owners, other regulatory authorities and connected parties to review the same and co-ordinate with IT to address deviations. Will also be responsible to review and sign off all relevant documents of behalf of the Department. Scope creep is to be managed within budget expectations and variances are addressed to ensure the project deliverables are not compromised.

  • Manage the testing schedules and scripts and ensure resources are deployed in a timely manner so the delivered modules are tested in a qualitative manner for implementation across the network. Co-ordinate and involve a broad spectrum of users (including outstations) to ensure the testing is thorough and all bugs are detected.   

  • Manage the development and implementation of local and central system usage procedures and ensure the entire user manuals, prompt cards and online help is published. External EDI parties must be notified and seamlessly migrated to the new system. Post implementation, organise the resources to address operational issues and provide constant support to systems queries from both within the network and external users

  • Direct and manage enhancements to existing systems to suit the changing business requirements and the future functional requirements and administer the user forums to act as a medium to submit modifications and implement them based on commercial and efficiency benefits. Act as the principal conduit between business users and EGIT development staff to ensure consistency of product, consistency between products and resources is prioritised to meet organisational demand. 

  • Ensure compliance to all relevant safety policies, procedures and controls across the department guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance and a responsible environmental attitude. 


Job Requirements:

To be considered for the role, you must meet the below requirements: 



  • Bachelors degree or honours with 6+ years' experience in Cargo/Logistics Domain

  • 8+ years' experience in an IT/Systems role with focus on  business analysis

  • Experience in business systems implementation

  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams.

  • Good understanding of security best practices.

  • Skills in managing change and adapting solutions as business needs evolve.

  • Good knowledge of Airline Cargo Management System(s) and emerging technologies like smart tags, tracking operations etc.

  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities

  • Ability to analyse business requirements as subject matter expert and understand the development life cycle of application systems. 

  • A high degree of analytical and creative thinking.   

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing, distribution, shipping and regulatory practices and controls.
