- The Chief Pilot (CP) is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and management of the Company’s pilots and related support personnel. Good communication and professionalism are expected at all times.
- The Chief Pilot is listed in Paragraph A006 of the Company OPSPECS and may initiate, conduct, or terminate a Part 135 flight for the Company in accordance with 14 CFR Part 135.77, and Paragraph A008 of the Company OPSPECS.
- The CP is responsible for adhering to and supporting the policies and procedures described in both the Part 91 and Part 135 COMs and always ensuring full compliance from subordinates.
- The Chief Pilot is also responsible for ensuring that the needs of subordinates are adequately addressed and that no lapse in responsibility may occur.
- The Chief Pilot reports directly to the Director of Operations but is expected to work closely with all members of the senior management team on a day-to-day basis.
Responsibilities
The incumbent in this position will be responsible for the following:
- Maintaining the organization's current and future pilot staffing needs and ensuring an adequate number of properly trained flight personnel is available to support effective and safe operations.
- Conducts flight personnel interviews as part of the Management Team and recommends and initiates personnel actions. Ensures all pilot positions are filled with qualified employees.
- Work directly with other members of the Pilot Training Group (PTG) to schedule and direct all crewmember training and testing and ensure the appropriate aircraft and equipment are available for training. To this end, the Chief Pilot must always remain actively engaged in the pilot training process.
- Work closely with the Director of Operations to establish and maintain approved Company ground and flight training programs and standardization for Pilots, Check Airmen, Flight Instructors, and other flight personnel.
- Schedule and direct crewmember training/testing and ensures that appropriate aircraft and equipment are available for training, as necessary. The Chief Pilot will work closely with Flight Instructors and Check Pilots to ensure these tasks are met routinely and consistently.
- Prepare a schedule of training needs and present it to other management members weekly. The schedule is designed to keep everyone in the Company informed about the current status of pilot training and the need for additional resources, such as aircraft, personnel, or logistics.
Ensure all members of management are kept informed and up to date on the Company’s pilot training schedule and staffing. In support of this effort, the Chief Pilot is responsible for preparing and delivering both a weekly and monthly training schedule to other members of the management team, which shall include at least the following information:
- Proposed Pilot Training Dates
- Proposed Training Locations and Aircraft
- Proposed Pilots to be Trained
- Proposed Flight Instructors to be Used
The Chief Pilot is expected to work with other members of the Pilot Training Group to develop and approve an annual training budget. This budget will be used as a guide for the remainder of each training year and to assist with managing training-related expenses.
