Job overview and responsibilities
This director will lead strategy, research, and development support efforts to improve United’s revenue management (RM) systems and tools, responsible for optimizing offers to increase over $50 billion in annual passenger revenues. We are looking for someone to employ innovative demand forecasting and optimization methodologies in ways that can be understood and optimally handled by United’s RM professionals. Scope includes leadership of the Revenue Management Planning, Development & Science team – which collaborates with United’s RM, Digital Technology, and Analytics & Innovation teams to maintain and improve RM systems – as well as the Revenue Business Intelligence Data Strategy team, which provides reporting and support to ensure the PRM organization’s successful utilization of its extensive data stores.
- Listen to and collaborate with stakeholders among RM and Analytics & Innovation teams to make strategic decisions about the future direction of United’s RM systems and processes
- Determine the most effective & efficient ways to incorporate new and/or improved algorithms into United’s existing PRM framework
- Own the design, testing, and implementation of improvements to United’s RM systems
- Prioritize development efforts based on a balance of benefits, costs, and resource availability
- Ensure constant, clear communication between the RM PDS team and the RM market teams as improvements are planned & implemented
- Provide support to the RM market teams in optimally using and troubleshooting existing RM systems
- Collaborate with problem solvers within United as well as at universities to learn about new technologies (AI, quantum computing, etc.) and their potential applicability to solve RM problems
- Actively participate in industry forums (AGIFORS, ATLGT, etc.) to keep abreast of new insights & algorithms in RM in the airline industry
- Manage the Revenue Business Intelligence Data Strategy (RBI Data) team to provide the PRM department the best and most efficient tools to drive analysis & solutions to PRM problems, and to support the PRM teams’ data analytics capabilities
- Mentor Sr Managers in the group to develop good listening and interpersonal skills between their teams and other PRM groups
- Help team leaders to champion good project requirements definition and test planning skills within their teams
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelors degree or 5 years of relevant work experience in Statistics, Data Analytics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, Computer Science or similarly analytical fields
- 7 total years of professional experience, at least 4 of which in an airline Revenue Management role or PRM-supporting role
- Strong project and people management skills, experience with Microsoft office suite (Excel, PowerPoint), experience working with airline RM system(s) and advanced airline RM forecasting and optimization concepts
Preferred
- Master’s Degree
- Basic knowledge of SQL and some advanced business intelligence tool (Power BI, Spotfire, etc.), working knowledge of Artificial Intelligence topics
The base pay range for this role is $155,895.00 to $212,410.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
