Job Summary
The Director of Maintenance reports to the company President and will work from our Maui, Hawaii Maintenance location. The Director of Maintenance is responsible for the overall operations of the maintenance department and the airworthiness of the aircraft. The Director of maintenance works to ensure the safety of Blue Hawaiian Helicopters aircraft, including but not limited to airworthiness, regulatory compliance, sound maintenance practices, processes and operations. The Director of Maintenance will have a broad knowledge and through understanding of the aviation industry and the FAA regulations; ensure compliance with FAR/FAA Part 133/135 and FAR/FAA part 145 air carrier certificates, company policies, and federal regulations.
The classification of this position is broad and assigned specific functional areas; duties and assignments may overlap depending on the operational needs of the department.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:
- Provides overall Senior Leadership oversight of the company Maintenance operation and as such, has the final authority to release to service airframes, engines, rotors, appliances and component parts thereof.
- Ensure all maintenance personnel performing maintenance and inspections have adequate training and are appropriately qualified to perform the work which they have been assigned.
- Oversee maintenance management personnel training requirements and provide input on planning of all scheduled training.
- Manage company tool control and tool calibration program to ensure all tools and test equipment are inspected and maintained in a serviceable and, when applicable, in calibrated condition.
- Demonstrate awareness of and supports Blue Hawaiian Helicopters goals through participation in continuous quality management and company initiatives.
- Support and ensure employees follow company policies and procedures.
- Specific duties for the Director of Maintenance as required in Company’s FAA approved Operations Manual and applicable FARs.
- Maintain compliance with current FAA Regulations, Inspection/Compliance Standards, company policies and procedures. Conduct internal and external facility audits as necessary.
- Ensures all Helicopter of Consultants LLC aircraft are maintained in Airworthy condition. Responsible for ensuring all aircraft document control(s).
- Responsible for planning, scheduling and forecasting maintenance activities and managing a comprehensive maintenance department budget. Maintain and manage a comprehensive maintenance department budget for over 25 helicopters at over 5 bases with high flight time utilization.
- Ensure adequate inspection aids, special tools and equipment are available, inspected and maintained in a serviceable condition. Manage company tool control and tool calibration program to ensure all tools and test equipment are inspected and maintained in a serviceable and, when applicable, in calibrated condition.
- Ensure accurate and timely execution of all required inspection records, reports and forms.
- Ensure incoming material including parts and supplies receive an incoming inspection (receiving Inspection) to determine airworthiness prior to being approved for installation.
- Ensure acceptable standards are maintained by vendors and agencies which have arrangements with the Company to supply products, services or materials directly related to aircraft airworthiness.
- Ensure all required inspections, TBO and life limited components/parts are tracked on company aircraft. Ensure receiving inspection requirements are complied with for new and continued-serviced parts.
- Conduct weight and balance analysis by using approved maintenance manuals and scales.
- Performs administrative and clerical duties using computers including large amounts of data entry.
- Ensure aircraft records, maintenance data, and flight data are maintained in accordance with FAA regulations and company policies. Responsible for managing and maintaining AAIP, MEL’s, and other FAA regulatory documentation as necessary. Ensure periodic aircraft records audits, base audits and systems audits are performed as required to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Ensure aircraft and engine maintenance logs and maintenance records are screened and monitored to ensure compliance with current regulations, manufacturer maintenance programs, Airworthiness Directives etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees in the Maintenance department. Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. For Exempt Managers: Managers that carry out these responsibilities for two or more employees will have significant input in hiring and termination decisions.
Qualifications

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) from four-year college or university and 10 or more years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Aircraft avionics experience involving the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of avionics systems
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience maintaining helicopters and/or managing maintenance operations for F.A.R. Part 133/135 operators and or F.A.R. Part 145 Repair Stations.
- 6 years’ experience as an aircraft maintenance manager/supervisor for aircraft operated under FAA Part 133/135 with experience in FAA AAIP, CAMP and MEL programs preferred
- 5 years of experience on Airbus Helicopter (formerly Eurocopter) and Turbomeca Arriel engines, experience overseeing multiple aircraft and maintenance technicians, experience in Part 145 operations and regulations strongly preferred

Computer Skills
- Advanced with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- RAMCO Software experience preferred.
- Sharepoint experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe & Power plant (A&P) certificate required.
- Inspector Authorization (IA) certificate required.
