Total Aviation Staffing is seeking an experienced Director of Planning and Heavy Maintenance for a leading airline maintenance operation. This leadership role is responsible for developing and overseeing an industry-leading maintenance planning and scheduling team that supports the organizations operational growth. The ideal candidate will bring a production-based mindset , with expertise in forecasting, scheduling, and optimizing aircraft maintenance operations.

As the business expands, this position offers a unique opportunity to shape and enhance the maintenance planning function , ensuring operational efficiency, cost reduction, and compliance with FAA regulations. This role requires a hands-on leader with strong strategic and analytical skills who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that enhance maintenance planning and scheduling.
  • Build and manage a forecasting and resource planning capability to ensure aircraft maintenance needs are met efficiently.
  • Provide data-driven insights and analysis to optimize maintenance operations, production, and inventory management.
  • Oversee the short-term and long-term aircraft maintenance plans (HMV), including engines, APUs, and landing gear.
  • Develop and execute continuous improvement strategies , incorporating Lean methodologies for efficiency gains.
  • Manage maintenance production capacity and scheduling to ensure aircraft availability.
  • Foster strong cross-functional relationships with supply chain, maintenance control, and operational teams.
  • Implement cost-reduction strategies while maintaining high operational standards.
  • Ensure compliance with the FAAs Continued Airworthy Maintenance Program (CAMP) and company policies.
  • Oversee MRO vendor relationships and contracts , ensuring optimal service and performance.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Maintain compliance with Safety Management Systems (SMS) and security protocols .

Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Maintenance Management or a related field .
  • Five or more years of leadership experience in a Part 121 airline maintenance planning/scheduling organization within the last eight years.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills in a matrixed environment across multiple locations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills , with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred:
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification .
  • Experience using Omega (AMES) software .
  • Familiarity with Maintenance and Engineering (M&E) software .
