Job Description:
  • Oversee the operation of the airline's Safety Management System (SMS) program. Report to the President, CEO, & Accountable Executive on implementation, operation, and all matters that adversely affect the safe operation, airworthiness of aircraft, or efficiency of technical operations personnel
  • Manage the Company’s Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) program
  • Investigate and analyze the root cause of any safety-related symptoms or incidents and recommend policies, programs, or procedures to mitigate future occurrences
  • Develop, implement, and administer training programs to enhance safety and safety assurance objectives
  • Strengthen the Company’s overall Safety Management System culture
  • Oversee additional safety programs including Emergency Response, Internal Evaluation Program, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Fatigue Risk Management Program (FRMP), and Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAP)
  • Ensure company Safety manuals include current policies and procedures relating to the health and safety of the airline
  • Ensure the Internal Evaluation Program designs and conducts audits to actively identify hazards and control associated risks in flight, maintenance, and ground operations, and continually improve safety through audit and assessment of processes and systems.
  • May be called upon to liaise with the FAA, OSHA, NTSB, or other regulatory agencies as directed by President, CEO, & Accountable Executive pertaining to areas of function and responsibility
  • Develop and administer the budgets needed to ensure necessary resources are provided to the functions assigned to safety.
  • Oversees the Security department, ensuring compliance with TSA, CBP, and other security protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President, CEO, & Accountable Executive.

General

This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position that will report to the President, CEO, & Accountable Executive. The Director of Safety must meet the requirements of FAA 14 CFR 119.65.The individual in this position has the primary responsibility of overseeing the airline’s safe operations for both its employees and members. They will assume a proactive stance in performing their duties and responsibilities and will keep the President, CEO, & Accountable Executive informed on a continuous basis of any and all concerns that might affect the safety or security of the airline. The Director of Safety is a key safety position, which ensures all Eastern Air Express personnel, process, and procedures, promote safety, security, quality, and regulatory compliance for all Eastern Air Express operations. 

Job Requirements:
  • Should have established professional credentials such as an FAA commercial pilot, airline transport pilot certificate, an FAA mechanics certificate, or an FAA aircraft dispatcher certificate
  • Should have supervisory experience. Such experience may include any combination of the following, providing the total experience is greater than or equal to 3 years:
    • Experience in a supervisory position with a part 121 or 135 air carrier.
    • Experience in a position comparable to the above in U.S. Military aviation operations.
    • Experience in a supervisory position with a government department, board, or agency that deals directly with aviation matters.
    • Experience in a supervisory position with a part 91 or 125 operations/aviation department

Note: One year of experience may be credited for a completed degree in higher education relating to aviation safety.

  • Requires knowledge of Operations Specifications, aviation safety standards and operating practices, and applicable FAA regulations; 14 CFR 5, 91, 119, 121 or 135
  • Be familiar with IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) 
  • Be familiar with the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) 
  • Have strong risk management, root cause analysis, and risk mitigation development strategy skills.
  • Be familiar with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) programs (AOSSP, PCSSP, and FACASSOP).
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Must exercise good judgement, have effective communication and rapport building skills.
  • Be open to travel
  • Pass a two (2) year drug and alcohol background check, pre-employment drug test, and Criminal History Records Check (CHRC)
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
