Job Description:

The Health and Safety Manager will develop, implement, manage, and maintain effective Health and Safety policies and procedures that meet the criteria for ISO compliance as well as corporate and government ground and aviation safety requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:

1)    Ensure compliance with all company and business area HSE policies, procedures, and practices.

2)    Implement and coordinate company HSE programs, including policy and procedure, training, hazard analysis, audit/assessment, permitting, recordkeeping, and inspection.

3)    Resolve compliance problems, questions, or complaints received from within the company, customers, etc.

4)    Perform inspections to ensure workplace conditions and work practices conform to HSE standards and best practices.

5)    Ensures workplace conditions and practices comply with applicable federal, state, local and customer/client HSE regulations and standards evaluate, and report metrics to measure status and progress.

6)    Perform injury and incident investigations with root cause analysis, prepare corresponding reports, and manage to closure.

7)    Guide the activities of other HSE professionals within business unit.

8)    Develop plans, procedures, and policies to continuously improve HSE programs.

9)    Develop, coordinate, and execute an effective safety training program.

10) Provides leadership and direction in all areas of a risk assessment, loss control, regulatory compliance, and safety program.

11) Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.

12) Keeps abreast of pending regulatory developments through reference sources; obtains insight on legislative agendas at state and federal levels.

13) Conduct regular, technical reviews of all ongoing improvement projects and conduct thorough audits of projects in the closure phase.

14) Maintain accurate OSHA recordkeeping documentation and provide periodic updates to corporate EHS.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelors degree in HSE-related field, i.e., Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or other sciences.
  • Five to eight years of position related experience. HSE and industry-related experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Good written communication skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.
  • Position requires 50 travel.
  • Ability to accomplish results through interaction with management team and other HSE professional within business unit, and/or on own with significant latitude and independence in assignments. 
  • Knowledge of aircraft maintenance, planning, quality control and supervisory policies, principles, procedures and techniques.  For military contracts, extensive knowledge of environmental, health and safety regulations and requirements in DOD environment. 
  • Ability to develop and present senior staff-level briefings and management reports.  Demonstrated experience with process improvement approaches. 
  • Experience in implementing management systems standards (e.g., ISO 14001, OSHA VPP, FAA SMS, etc.) 
  • Excellent communication, effective leadership and interpersonal skills.  Strong analytical and organizational skills. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.  Travel varies by assignment.
