Job Description:

The KF Aerospace Centre for Excellence Association was established to perpetuate the legacy of KF Aerospace and its founder, Barry Lapointe. It operates on a not-for-profit basis and was established to celebrate aviation history, promote aviation excellence, and advance participation in aerospace by way of education, advocacy and other community-based activities.  In furtherance of those purposes, it has built and now operates the KF Aerospace Centre for Excellence, a museum and exhibit venue that showcases the history of aviation in the Okanagan Valley and provides facilities for events with a connection to the aviation community.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the board of directors, the Executive Director is the chief executive and operating officer, responsible for executing its mandate and strategic plan.   The core duties and responsibilities pertain to the successful operation of the Centre as a not-for-profit facility. The Executive Director represents the organization in public, leads and manages day-to-day operations and is responsible for the financial well-being of the organization, including the acquisition and preservation of exhibits, public interactions with the facility and aircraft, the hosting of events that are consistent with the organization’s mandate and its not-for-profit status, and related community engagement on and off site as part of the Centre’s educational and advocacy mandate.

 

At present the focus of the organization is the Centre.  Other projects will follow that fulfill and advance its legacy objectives into the future.   The Executive Director will play a role in identifying those opportunities and will be charged will implementing them.

 

The Executive Director will:

  • Ensure the effective administration of the Centre’s daily operations and special events in compliance with all operational and legal requirements and to a standard of excellence
  • Implement programs that carry out the organization’s mission
  • Manage the financial resources of the organization to ensure its financial health and integrity, and operate within approved budgets while preserving its not-for-profit status
  • Create annual business plans and budgets, and statements of goals and objectives for board approval, and provide regular, timely and accurate reports to the board 
  • Hire, train, supervise and retain competent, qualified, professional staff and contractors, and utilize contracted services appropriately and collaboratively
  • Be active and visible in the community and work closely with other professional, civic, and private organizations
  • Maintain strong relationships with all constituents and stakeholders; develop strategic partnerships where appropriate
  • Oversee all external communications, including website, marketing collateral, newsletters, and social media feeds
  • Ensure the clean, safe, and functional operation of the facility and static aircraft displays

 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive management experience in a not-for-profit organization; museum or educational environment is an asset
  • Knowledge of management and leadership principles as they apply to the not-for-profit sector
  • University or college degree in a relevant field
  • Strong communication and financial management skills 
  • A passion for the aviation industry 
  • Experience working effectively with a board of directors
  • Collaborative approach to leadership.

 

Compensation and Benefits

 

Annual compensation: $95,000 to $110,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
