Responsibilities
The Manager, Tax is responsible for managing the sales/use tax, property tax, liquor tax, excise taxes unclaimed property and annual report processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting. Managing these processes requires monitoring all tax compliance initiatives against applicable laws and regulations, updating as necessary and managing any tax audit processes. The manager will collaborate with finance, accounting, fuel department and external advisors to ensure our tax strategies and policies are implemented accurately.
- Manage tax calendar for sales/use taxes, excise taxes, property tax, liquor tax, annual reports and unclaimed property.
- Review monthly sales/use tax returns, payments and workpapers as prepared by the Analyst, Tax.
- Review bi-monthly fuel excise tax and air transportation tax workpapers and payment requests as prepared by Analyst, Tax.
- Work closely with fixed asset accounting to develop and maintain tax fixed asset schedules, maintain SAGE reporting module, and maintain tax basis balance sheet.
- Manage tax audits, inquiries and notices from tax authorities.
- Work closely with fuel accounting and fuel department to maintain tax reporting schedules generated from Fuel Plus.
- Create and manager book-tax calculations quarterly and yearly to maintain deferred tax schedules and reporting. Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly and yearly tax provisions.
- Coordinate workflow and tax filings with external advisors in regards to property tax, fuel/air transportation excise taxes and unclaimed property.
- Create and maintain tax matrices through regulatory research.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency with office applications like Microsoft Office (Powerpoint, Excel) and Power BI.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Exceptional presentation skills.
- Self-Starter, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Possess keen attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
- Team player, comfortable working with business executives and strong personalities.
- Experience in documenting technical process flows, workflows, and business processes.
- Works under pressure reaching fluctuating goals based on varying amount of feedback.
- Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
