Summary This position is accountable for coordination of laboratory services within the company as well as for the leadership and management laboratory resources engaged in the generation of Chemical, Metallographic and/or Mechanical data for use by Research, Engineering, Manufacturing groups and/or final product certification. The annual laboratory operating budget in excess of $1,000,000 with product accountability in excess of $300,000,000.00. Personnel Supervision: Chief Chemist Laboratory Coordinators Technicians Production Personnel Essential Functions The incumbent and staff personnel provide a full range of laboratory services required for processing the company products from the initial raw material analysis through primary product melting then ultimately thorough chemical, metallographic and mechanical evaluation for final product certification. The incumbent provides the leadership to his staff in developing the staff personnel implementing and/or complying with specifications, customer requirements, and/or third party accreditation’s for the certification of chemical, metallographic and/or mechanical properties of produced alloys. The incumbent is responsible for approximately $3,000,000.00 of capital laboratory test equipment in use for chemical, metallographic and mechanical testing as well as specimen machining. Recommendations are presented with the budget analysis for new capital laboratory test equipment to meet current and future requirements in analysis and evaluations. The major position challenges are directing and leading a high qualified personnel staff in providing timely, efficient, and correct chemical, metallographic and mechanical testing analysis in a specialty products. Qualifications Education and Experience B.S. degree in Engineering or Metals/Quality discipline. At least 10 years of experience in Technical/Engineering role with 3-5 years of experience in the metals industry preferred. Also requires 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role.
