Job Summary

The Manager Seating Strategy will lead a Team of individual contributors to develop, manage, and deliver optimized boarding and seating plans and capabilities. This role will be responsible for establishing and managing the execution of the boarding and seating plans for the airline, including optimization of the seat map and boarding configurations to maximize revenue across air products, while balancing with other factors including product strategies, passenger experience, turn and operational implications, among others. The Manager Seating Strategy is a strategic thinker and effective communicator who is excited to drive the future of Southwest Airlines.

Responsibilities
  • Build and lead a Team of professionals to oversee, coordinate, and manage the use of the seat map and boarding constructs to achieve and balance across business objectives, including maximizing seating and boarding revenue, achieving product strategy, Customer experience and operational goals, among others
  • Drive and maintain seat map strategy to define business objectives for the commercial and operational use of seats, within established product and business strategy
  • Set, manage and cascade strategic parameters for the business as it relates to use of seats for sale or Customer use, including objectives and prioritization across competing objectives
  • Work closely cross-functionally with Leaders and partners in the business (including Operations, Revenue Management, Digital, Technology, CX, FP&A, and others) to understand and manage challenges related to seating and boarding and provide guidance on use of tactics to manage the seat map within strategic parameters (e.g. seat blocking, upgrades, pricing, etc.).
  • Ensure close connection across all stakeholders as they influence and/or are affected by seat map management and policies
  • Work closely with Leaders, Finance Teams, and others to establish performance goals / KPIs and establish reporting capabilities and regular communication to relevant stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain plan to execute against performance expectations, including managing day-to-day performance and maintaining long-term performance plan
  • Guide and oversee ad-hoc analytics and research as needed to support goals, both within Team and working cross-functionally
  • Monitor and adjust seat map management policies and capabilities as needed to respond to changing market conditions and customer preferences
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to boarding and seating, and drive related enhancements forward as needed
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employees Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of finance and the airline industry
  • Strong knowledge of industry-standard seat map optimization practices
  • Skills in strategic thinking, growth planning, and cross-functional execution
  • Skilled in executive-level communications, with ability to communicate effectively by listen intently, question appropriately, influence outcomes, and articulate clearly in both written and verbal formats
  • Skilled in driving change and supporting analytical value during the creation process while being able to ensure high quality
  • Skilled in formatting and presenting data and information
  • Ability to be self-motivated and be able to perform with minimal direct supervision
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading team(s)
  • Fully functioning, broad knowledge in
    • Airline marketing or travel industry marketing
  • Preferred: Experience and intimate knowledge of industry norms and practices related to seat map optimization
  • Preferred: Experience with Excel, Access, Tableau, Power BI type tools
  • Preferred: Finance and/or RM experience

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space workstation/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Travel up to 20 of the time
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $125,000 per year to $138,500 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
