Primary Objective of the Position:
The Manager, Health & Safety is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, oversight and day-to-day administration of health and safety matters for the company.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Responsible for coordinating and overseeing implementation of all Health & Safety programs, processes, reporting and ensuring compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with the Canada Labour Code Part II standards and recommended practices, the Occupational Health & Safety Regulations (OHS), the Aviation Occupational Health & Safety Regulations (AOHS), and all other applicable regulations.
  • Identify all applicable current occupational health and safety legislations and requirements, and liaise with regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with mandatory regulations.
  • Collaborate with, support, and assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of health and safety policies, procedures, and programs to raise safety standards and to foster a culture of health and safety.
  • Responsible for introducing and championing a Cargojet Health & Safety Excellence Program to achieve a gold standard accreditation with regulatory and certification bodies.
  • Manage and maintain all safety training, upkeep of matrix, workplace incidents, injuries, training, and certifications.
  • Act as an Occupational Health & Safety contact and liaison for the company, complete regular site visits and safety audits.
  • Support the management with WCB claims; ensure administration, reporting requirements, injury management and return to work programs are followed.
  • Responsible for driving success in accident prevention through the promotion of company-wide programs to promote and improve Health and Safety; provide and maintain accurate statistical data, reports and analysis to management, identifying injury trends and recommend initiatives to reduce incidents and improve prevention initiatives.
  • Maintain the Health & Safety Program Manual in order to ensure the Manual meets the regulatory requirements, and provides guidance for policy, procedure and industry practices for health and safety.
  • Manage and prepare reports based on all safety documentation, hazard assessments, toolbox talks.
  • Conduct a periodical health & safety training needs analysis for team members in general, and for Workplace Health & Safety Committee members and Safety Representatives, and prepare an annual training calendar
  • Facilitate and participate in incident / accident investigations and risk assessments as required; develop corrective actions and follow up action items to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee the establishment and composition of Workplace Health & Safety Committees at all Stations and ensure conduct of regular periodical meetings and inspections, follow up action on open items, and further ensure that the required memberships and certification requirements are met.
  • Continuously update and improve health and safety-related content including (but not limited to) new hire orientation, safety awareness campaigns, safety bulletins and other communication tools.
  • Providing support to the other company programs, as required.
  • Performing other duties as designated.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety preferred.
  • Experience in maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Understanding of Federal regulations (TC, COSH, CARS).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills with an aptitude for precision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective work relationships.
  • 5+ years relevant and practical Health and Safety Experience.
  • Good knowledge of PC hardware and software applications.
  • Ability to maintain OHS certification as a workplace health and safety officer.
