The Manager, Wage and Hour Compliance Manager is responsible for governing, overseeing and ensuring the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring policies and procedures across the enterprise to ensure fair and legal compensation practices. The manager will provide guidance, influence and partner with Legal, Payroll, Compensation, Benefits, HRBPs, Senior Leaders and other stakeholders. The manager will also evaluate and provide risk assessments as well as provide guidance and training to HR staff and management on compliance issues and conduct regular reviews to identify and address potential areas of non-compliance.

This position is located at the Delta Air Lines Corporate campus in Atlanta and will report to the Senior Corporate Counsel Wage & Hour.

Summary of responsibilities (not comprehensive of all tasks):

  • Collaborate with legal counsel (in-house and external) to address complex wage and hour issues and ensure adherence to legal standards. Develop and/or implement new policies and/or procedures across the enterprise and facilitate process design/redesign, system and workflow enhancements Conducts intake interview, as well as additional interviews with all involved parties.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws. Guide, influence and partner with various senior leaders and stakeholders. Lead and prepare executive-level presentations, dashboards and reports to communicate compliance status, trends, and recommendations Liaises with Legal Team, as needed, for cases whose outcome cannot be determined without legal expertise.
  • Conduct necessary research, keep abreast of emerging or new wage and hour laws and provide timely, clearly written and relevant information in response to inquiries
  • Partner with HR teams to create and facilitate training to HR and Company managers concerning wage and hour laws and corresponding Company policies and procedures
  • Conduct reviews of payroll and timekeeping records to identify and correct discrepancies

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Paralegal Studies or a related field is required, although equivalent experience will be considered
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as an employment law paralegal or HR compliance professional
  • 5+ years of experience researching, developing, and writing company employment policies and /or communications and working with multi-state employment law issues, including wage and hour
  • The successful candidate will be proactive and will have outstanding listening skills, proven consultative skills, and the ability to handle information with sensitivity and confidentiality.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously and manage multiple requests with varying timelines.
  • Must have a proven ability to demonstrate a drive for results and accountability of business needs.
  • Previous experience with relationship and consensus building
  • Strong communication/presentation and writing skills and ability to effectively communicate with all levels of leadership across all functional areas and geographies, particularly at executive levels including business/function heads and their direct reports.
  • Demonstrated partnership development and influencing others without direct authority, with sensitivity to geographical and cultural differences.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple, competing priorities in the face of high case volumes and extremely time sensitive matters.
  • Consistent demonstration of ownership and accountability (driven to “do the right thing”).
  • Ability to thrive in a complex organization and work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented, intense environment.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing environment.
  • (If transferring internally) Must be performing satisfactorily in current position.
  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.
  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • Advanced degree (e.g., Masters, Certification from a recognized paralegal organization) is a plus
  • Significant knowledge and application (or ability to quickly learn) of Delta employment policies and practices and employment law and regulations.
