Overview

Job Summary

The Regional Safety Manager is responsible and accountable to the Sr. Director, Regional Safety. Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and primary point of contact for all Safety-related issues within their assigned region. Region includes all operational bases, maintenance facilities, and ancillary and support operations and assets on the Hawaiian Islands associated with both Blue Hawaiian Helicopters (BHH) and Life Save (LS). Performs all duties and responsibilities outlined in the Regional Safety Director - Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). This position will communicate corporate safety philosophy and facilitate initiatives to company personnel and customers, promoting behaviors and competencies that lead to a culture of safety and sound environment practices. Accomplishes Safety SME professional growth road map provided by Corporate Safety and overseen by the Sr Director Regional Safety.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Work with and provide leadership to designated Safety Representatives within their assigned region.
  • Perform mishap/accident/event investigations and technical analysis with company, customer, and safety investigation boards to identify Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and to document quality requirements.
  • Document findings, RCA and recommendations for safety, investigative and regulatory reports in ETQ.
  • Facilitate Risk Assessments for any Safety investigations andor reports, or as assigned by Corporate Safety.
  • Review identified system and regional Safety trends, hazards, and related risks to operations within their assigned region.
  • Perform Base and Maintenance Facility QA and follow-up audits as assigned by Corporate Safety.
  • Integrate with and facilitate all four pillars of the companys Safety Management System.
  • Maintain familiarization with regulatory guidance and requirements related to FAA, OSHA, State of Hawaii, and other Regulatory Statutes applicable to both BHH and LS operations.
  • Participate in the Safety Review Board and Corporate Safety Committee to review trends, safety reports, and risk assessments for recommendations and associated action items.
  • Provide education to assigned regional personnel on all aspects of the Air Methods SMS program to include Safety Reporting and Risk Assessments and Just Culture.
  • Assist the Internal Evaluation Program (IEP) team in performing follow-up audits for corrective actions within their assigned region.
  • Participate in Regional Leadership and COE-counterpart meetings, activities, and engagements.
  • Act as the Air Methods Safety Department representative for HBS and ADM customers within their assigned region (if applicable).
  • Participate in Emergency Response drills as required by Corporate Safety or Regional Leadership.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

  • Indicate the percentage of time conducting qualified and certified flight duties (if applicable) < 20

Subject to applicable laws and Air Methods policies, regular attendance is an essential function of the position. All employees must follow Air Methods employment practices and policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides supervision, support, and mentorship to dedicated safety personnel assigned to BHH or LS. Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the SOP, organizations policies, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include job performance assessments and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing safety-related tasks and work, rewarding employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. All supervisory training required by Air Methods policies must be completed on time and remain current.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree (BS/BA) from four-year college or university in Aviation Safety and up to 7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five (5) or more years of operational experience within air medical transportation operations
  • Must meet the minimum experience required to be qualified as a line pilot or line mechanic
  • Previous experience as an air medical services pilot and/or mechanic, preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience.

Skills

  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations, General Operations Manual, Pilot Training Programs, Safety Programs, Maintenance Administration, and company manuals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Aviation Safety Management System processes.
  • Sound judgment and objectivity in decision-making
  • Ability to create an environment that demonstrates teamwork and professionalism

Computer Skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current FAA Airmen Certification, Medical Certificate, and Aircraft Rating
