Responsibilities

The Senior Director of Network Planning will be responsible for the strategic planning and capacity management of Spirit’s network. This role involves the development and implementation of long-term strategies to optimize the use of fleet resources, enhance network connectivity, and ensure sustainable growth. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in network planning, with a strong analytical background and the ability to lead a dynamic team.

  • Oversee development of annual five-year planning process, and annal budget plan.
  • Develop and implement long-term network strategies to optimize route structures, enhance connectivity, and support business growth objectives.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify new opportunities and assess the competitive landscape.
  • Analyze current and future deployment of aircraft between profitable and unprofitable routes using latest economic and demand data and trends.
  • Oversee the development of capacity plans to ensure efficient utilization of fleet resources.
  • Monitor and analyze traffic trends, demand patterns, and load factors to make informed decisions.
  • Ensure alignment of capacity planning with operational and financial goals.
  • Rapidly make judgements on capacity and assist in evaluating long term capacity based on economic factors, demand, competitive capacity environment, airport connectivity and other operational considerations, and internal group discussion/feedback.
  • Determine tactical and strategic decisions that will have an immediate impact to the company’s bottom line (e.g. flying a route that losses money could cost the company millions of dollars, also finding a highly profitable route opportunity could generate millions in profit).
  • Manage all aspects of new route forecasting, network optimization, and development/update of future schedules for business planning purposes.
  • Generate and disseminate reports to applicable internal and external parties, including preparing the commercial items for quarterly earnings calls review with the CCO and sending weekly competitive capacity change reports.
  • Present industry competitive change summaries and analysis to C-level management on a weekly basis.
  • Develops monthly profitability performance reviews for network planning, commercial, and executive teams.
  • Determine out-for-sale capacity on rolling basis for 6-8 months in advance, considering competitors and strategic implications, as well as most profitable solutions.
  • Lead and mentor a team of network planners, providing guidance and support to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Work closely with commercial, operations, and finance teams to ensure integrated network planning.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, airports, and alliance partners, to support network development initiatives.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences and forums.
  • Identify and implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance network planning processes.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes impacting network planning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in aviation management, business administration, economics, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience in Network Planning or Economic Analysis-airline experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in network planning tools and software.
  • In-depth knowledge of aviation regulations and industry standards.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to develop and implement long-term strategies that drive business growth.
  • Analytical Expertise: Strong analytical skills to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Leadership: Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
  • Innovation: A forward-thinking approach to identify and implement innovative solutions.
