These teams provide the financial fuel that keeps our operation running from providing detailed analyses of financial planning, performance, and forecasts to managing our investments and financial strategies. Our Finance team plays an integral role in making our airline profitable and successful by meeting our financial goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Cost-effective sourcing and timely delivery of jet fuel is essential to an airline’s operation and financial results. This position will be responsible to develop and implement best-in-class processes for physical and paper transaction reporting, tracking and market risk analysis for conventional and SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) for United Airlines and its affiliates The Senior Manager, Fuel Risk Analysis and Systems is a multi-span bridge between the supply & logistics team and fuel accounting and IT systems to support the detailed tracking of fuel spend components and drivers, market and counterparty risks balancing managerial accounting with financial reporting needs. Generate actionable insights to lower fuel spend, identify and address market risks and oversee middle office ETRM systems controls and the development of related enhancements and interfaces

  • Lead efforts to oversee all business processes to collect and supervise the spectrum of physical (and any related paper) term, spot purchase and sale transactions with detailed breakdown of all components and drivers including contractual, infrastructure fees, taxes, market fuel prices and risks within internal systems
  • Develop, maintain periodic and ad-hoc fuel spend, market risk historical, prospective analytics disaggregating, aggregating price and volume components on multiple dimensions along the fuel supply chain including entity, counterparty, geography, regional market exposures, airport and fueling fees, taxes/incentives
  • Working with data scientists and analysts to develop and implement relevant dashboards and decision support tools
  • Lead the analysts responsible for timely supplier (or customer) payments and invoicing, pre-payment reconciliations and dispute resolutions
  • Oversee the cash flow requirements and supervise working capital across the fuel supply system
  • Support the fuel accounting team for efficient month-end, quarter-end close activities and in preparation of all required fuel statements and reconciliations, resolving outstanding issues timely
  • Maintain accurate near real-time market fuel price feeds and price benchmarks to fuel supply and logistics team and other internal customers including fuel tinkering and network profitability systems
  • Lead fuel volume, price, inventory short and long-term forecasts and track vs actuals
  • Prepare presentations for senior management
  • Support business process improvement, risk policies and controls, support development and implementation of related enhancements and interfaces in internal systems

QualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelors degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain or a related field
  • 7+ years of related experience inclusive of at least 5 years in transportation fuel planning, analysis, or supply chain
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Proficient in data analysis and visualization, reporting and business intelligence tools
  • Microsoft Office Proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
  • Job availability is 24/7 with minimal travel required
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Masters degree
  • CPA, MBA
  • 10+ years of increasing responsibility, airline industry, fuel supplier/re-seller experience
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead multiple projects concurrently with prioritization
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel with knowledge of PowerBI, SQL
  • Familiarity with Fuel ETRM systems such as ION RightAngle
