The architecture practice at Air New Zealand plays a central role in ensuring the success of this vision as we continue to modernise our digital landscape.  

Reporting to the Chapter Lead - Solutions Architect within our Technology function, we have a permanent opportunity that will work collaboratively with business and Digital leaders to architect critical infrastructure and applications for the Air New Zealand Digital platform.   

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and efficient enterprise-level platforms, including but not limited to container platforms, identity platforms, observability platforms, cloud platforms, and microservices deployment platforms.
  • Lead the integration of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications using event streams, APIs (microservices), and other necessary building blocks to ensure seamless functionality and performance.
  • Adhere to and advocate for MACH architecture principles, ensuring that the solutions are microservices-based, API-first, cloud-native, and headless.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, operations, security, and business units, to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams, ensuring best practices in architecture, coding, and deployment are followed.
  • Conduct technology evaluations and make recommendations for technology adoption that aligns with the organisations strategic goals.
  • Develop and maintain architectural documentation, including diagrams, standards, and guidelines, to ensure a clear understanding of the architecture across the organisation.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends and assess their applicability to our organisations goals and needs.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Solution Architect or similar role, with a strong portfolio of successfully delivered enterprise-level platforms.
  • Deep expertise in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure) and container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Strong understanding of identity management solutions (e.g., Azure AD, Okta) and observability platforms.
  • Proficiency in integrating COTS applications through event streams, APIs, and other building blocks.
  • Solid grasp of MACH architecture principles and their practical application in enterprise environments.
  • Excellent knowledge of microservices architectures, API management, and headless technologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
