The Senior Manager Business Optimization invests in our Purpose by leading a Team within Technical Operations to improve our operational performance, reduce costs, and develop solutions for increased productivity. This role will work collaboratively with groups throughout the Company and applies an understanding of current processes, available data, and business mapping to drive adoption. Responsibilities
  • Develop and effectively communicate a Technical Operations business optimization and data analytics vision, leading efforts to establish long-term and near-term plans as part of a roadmap necessary, and align the team appropriately through prioritization and execution
  • Problem Solving. Working with teams across Technical Operations and Supply Chain Management to better understand challenges, map process, and offer leaders options to proceed.
  • Data Auditing. Developing criteria and building analytics for the purpose of identifying issues with our aircraft and component records at scale.
  • Solution Prototyping. Creating the function necessary to perform actions identified as beyond the scope of existing teams, and generally pertaining to Technical Operations data systems.
  • Lead and advise a high-performing teams working collaboratively with business customers across all Southwest Airlines operational groups to understand contextual problems quickly and define, analyze, and deliver innovative solutions that address business opportunities which support the Technical Operations strategic priorities
  • Advise functional, senior, and executive leaders on new ideas and processes to increase efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction, overseeing research, analysis, and development of conclusions and present findings for discussion and evaluation to drive change
  • Work with direct leadership to translate industry trends and opportunities into objectives, well-defined plans, priorities, and assignments for your team
  • Foster productive relationships with all Southwest Airlines operational groups, working collaboratively to drive innovation to processes, tooling and technology with a focus on improved operational performance and reduced costs
  • Reviews document/report standards, processes, and procedures for continuous improvement
  • Ensures employees provide consistent, clear, timely, and accurate performance data, as well as insight to drive the fleet to the highest level of reliability
  • Ensures departmental compliance with the Southwest Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Recruit, develop, and retain individuals with the skills, attitude, and experience necessary to achieve goals/commitments as part of a high-performing, cohesive team
  • Recognize achievements and advocate for career growth of employees to build a bench using mentorship, stretch opportunities, and training plans via a skills-based learning plan
  • Create an environment where debate, dialogue and diversity of thought are encouraged, expected, and welcomed to foster high morale, integrity, trust and teamwork

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Skilled in developing strong working relationships across all levels of the company including employees, customers, leadership, and executives, and communicate effectively to that network in a clear and concise way
  • Ability to anticipate changing circumstances, unexpected constraints, or challenges and develop ideas, processes, and approaches through creative problem solving to meet those simple to complex challenges, recognizing the interdependencies of other teams, functional areas, and departments
  • Ability to identify and articulate important trends and opportunities for Technical Operations to be improved through process improvements, enhancement to tools and/or the use data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence
  • Advanced knowledge of situational and strengths-based leadership to provide continuous coaching to unveil areas of opportunity for an employee in order improve team performance and hold team accountable
  • Skilled in performing project/prioritization management to complete multiple tasks and projects under tight deadlines, in a heavily regulated environment
  • Skilled in Continuous Improvement methods to identify areas for improvement and provide leadership input for ongoing process, tool, communication and training advancements
  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable and well versed in delivering formal communication, both written and verbal, to various levels of the organization including customers, subject matter experts, and senior leaders
  • Ability to listen to, understand, and communicate ideas presented in writing and/or in speaking with others
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Ability to travel and represent SWA at industry meetings/conferences, and routine Southwest station visits
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelor&39;s Degree in Aviation, Engineering, Business or related field (may substitute qualifed experience in transport aircraft maintenance management in lieu of Bachelor&39;s Degree)

Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading team(s)
  • Fully functioning, broad knowledge in:
    • Growing and mentoring Growing and mentoring talent, skills and abilities across a diverse Team
    • Building and growing a new capability including driving and managing change
    • Solving ambiguous and complex problems through a systems thinking approach
    • Automation tools and the associated capabilities that can deliver business value to our Customers
    • Effective organizational structures and processes that can deliver business value to our Customers
    • Presentation and visualization platforms (Tableau, etc.)

Licensing/Certification
  • Must be able to obtain a SIDA (Secured Identification Display Area) badge and meet all local airport requirements

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Willing to work flexible schedule as needed, including overnight and weekends approximately 15 of the time
  • Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive Company information

Pay & Benefits

  • Competitive market salary from $158,950, per year to $176,600 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
