Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for leading and coordinating day-to-day processes associated with the labor contract negotiations for all international Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), responsible for dispute resolution in the area of arbitration/mediation and grievances, supports the development and execution of an overall labor strategy
  • Advises and counsels HR and senior leadership on labor relations strategy
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with employees and union officials
  • Position also involves direct negotiation as company spokesperson, support for the labor agreement between United and the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) and other duties as assigned by the Managing Director
  • Conducts negotiations with union representatives of organized employees at international locations to establish mutually satisfactory agreements covering wages and other conditions of employment
  • Works with leadership to develop strategy and tactics of contract negotiations and directs employee communications and the scheduling and progress of negotiation sessions
  • Provides long-term and broad views regarding labor implications of business decisions
  • Examines business unit needs to maximize efficiency under existing Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), including strategizing desired changes to agreements
  • Prepares contract language, letters relating to industrial relations activities, and contract manuals, and monitors the interpretation and application of contracts
  • Monitors all union/management problems and provides employee relations services to the international locations
  • Keeps informed on proposed and existing labor legislation, contracts interpretations, court decisions, economic conditions, and agreements of other carriers, and reviews their effect on United agreements and practices, keeping senior management advised of such developments
  • Formulates policy recommendations involving the application and interpretation of such laws and regulations, including potential conflicts with the terms of collective bargaining agreements
  • Answers questions, provides input, reviews policy and directs numerous projects and topics touching international employment and issues with Human Resources, Labor Relations and operating divisions leadership
  • Provides support to administer the AFA Agreement as directed by the Managing Director
Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Seven or more years of relevant professional experience
  • International unions/labor environments/international relations
  • Negotiation/consensus building principles
  • Negotiating, interpreting, and administering CBA(s)/contracts
  • Proven experience in strategic development of labor relations strategies that align with organizational goals
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with unions, employees, and management to promote collaboration
  • In-depth understanding of HR policies related to labor relations
  • Experience in the development and implementation of policies that support labor relations and organizational development
  • Effective writing skills
  • Analytical Thinking
  • Excellent communication skills
  • HR experience
  • Proficient in the use and presentation of information using PowerPoint
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 50, as required to support business needs
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
