Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE
Conducts thorough inspections and investigations after operational and/or safety events to provide a complete cross-departmental report to the MD, Flight Operations and the Chief Operations Officer.  Additionally, ensure the Safety Management System elements are implemented and maintained within Republic Airways Operations to identify hazards and manage risks.  


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Oversee the cross-departmental operational investigation process ensuring risks are identified, assessed and mitigated.
  • Supports the daily management, administration, and security of the Line Operations Safety Assessment.
  • Identify root cause, causal factors, and latent failures.
  • Monitors corrective actions, controls and corrective actions to ensure they are implemented and effective in mitigating recurring events.
  • Maintain the data collection repository of ongoing investigations and LOSA data.
  • Articulate and provide data-derived targets to senior level leadership for enhancement.
  • Provides reports to senior level management while meeting documented service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Prepare LOSA data summaries for senior management, training department(s), IBT and regulators.
  • Leads the cross-departmental data analysis group (DAG).
  • Evaluate metrics from various input sources to proactively recommend process improvement suggestions to operational leadership.
  • Act as a liaison between the Inflight, Dispatch, Maintenance and Flight Operations Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) Event Review Committees (ERC).
  • Engages and participates in industry committees, boards, and interest groups that set and have operational decision implications.
  • Review and respond as needed to all Information for Operators (InFo), Safety Alerts for Operations (SaFO) and Commercial Aviation Safety Team Safety Enhancements (CAST SE).
  • Communicate with industry professionals from other airlines and organizations to ensure the airline is staying ahead of industry-wide standards of innovation and technology.
  • Fosters a positive safety culture by conducting spot interviews with associates to identify the organizational causal factors.
  • Ensures the Safety Management System elements are implemented and maintained within Republic Airways Operations to identify hazards and manage risks.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform this job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE.

  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation or related areas of equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 10 years of airline experience.
  • Highly knowledgeable of FAA Regulations, Operations Specifications, and Operational Procedures related to his/her duties.
  • Thorough knowledge of Part 5 Safety Management Systems (SMS) regulations.
  • Must have previous working knowledge of aviation safety standards, safe operating practices, and aviation training.
  • Strong leadership skills/ability to work with a team.
  • Organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Root cause analysis and/or Investigation experience.
  • Safety Management System (SMS) Certificate.
  • Internal Evaluation/Quality Assurance experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

REASONING/PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY
Possess strong analytical skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish  facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Strong evaluation and troubleshooting skills.

DECISION MAKING
Makes decisions to support strategic decision that have impacts areas and outside of the organization. Makes decisions daily on use of resources, performance, and budgets. Decisions could require additional expenditure of resources if not sound decisions. Able to plan, direct and organize a department and establish goal settings.
